We are getting ready to break down on a patio expansion and outdoor kitchen buildout. I thought my project was going to be pretty nice until I saw what AnScAggie is working with. Sheesh.

My setup will be as follows:

- 32-36" built-in Gas Grill with rotisserie, infrared searing burner, and full-size flat top (griddle) add on (haven't picked my grill yet but leaning towards Blaze, Napoleon, or Lion)

- Large BGE

- Double side burner

- Sink with disposal, hot/cold

- Pull out trash drawer

- Door/drawer combo under grill, Access Door below sink, Drawer bank

Regarding ice/refrigeration, based on experience of others and reading online, we have decided to not put in a fridge or ice maker. I don't want to constantly have an ice maker to clean or a fridge to replace. Instead, we are going to go with a rolling beverage chiller/bar center where we can set up a bar and ice down drinks for a few days at a time.

As others have suggested, we are putting in a bunch of additional outlets - basically putting an outlet anywhere I think there is a chance I might need one. We are also stubbing out a gas line on the edge of the patio for crawfish/turkey frying.

Side note - does anyone have a recommendation for a free (or cheap) software for drawing up some basic plans for the HOA? They aren't asking for stamped drawings, particularly on a project without any structural implications, so it's really just a matter of pulling together some to-scale sketches with pictures of materials, etc.

I have a BGE and a gas grill. If I had a do over, I would gave done a Blaze Built in Griddle instead of the gas grill or if you have room all 3.
Maybe dumb, but what do you use the griddle for? I have a Big Joe. If I were to do a kitchen, I would definitely have a built in shelf for the grill but I'm not sure what I would do with a gas grill or griddle.

I use my Blackstone griddle for too many things to mention. Smash Burgers, any breakfast thing you'd get in a diner, Hibachi, etc. Do a google image search for Blackstone griddle and you'll get some ideas.
Damnit now I want a blackstone. Yall have the 4 burner version?

Yes they have been very good, I'd highly recommend them. The only issue I have with them is they have a light kit on each fan and if they are running the remote that controls the lights and speed works on all of them at the same time. The only way we've found to individually control light and speed separately is to turn on a single fan get it set up how you want, turn it off then turn on the other and do the same thing.

Cool, looking at the Spitfire as it's not that expensive and pushes almost twice the CFM as the Hunters I've been looking at. Need two for a covered patio being built right now. Not sure if I'll need or want the light kits.

The spitfire is what I have. They are remote controlled so realize when you go up or down on one both will go to the same setting unless you turn one off.

Am I missing something? You bumped like 20+ old threads, but as far as I can tell didn't say anything.

They spammed an advertisement on a bunch of old threads, got called out on it, and now have deleted the ads.

Ah, I see the thread about the spam now. Its title wasn't obvious at first. I obviously need to do a better job of following the OB during the day

TexAgs and Former Students, this is Layne Talbot. I am an Aggie and a current Partner/Owner of FIREDISC Cookers. We had an overly excited intern that was trying to put our name out there. We are all excited about this TexAgs sponsorship and it got a little out of control. We apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused. In the meantime, and as an apology how about we throw party/cookout at Texian Firearms in Houston on Saturday, June 22nd! We will have some cool gifts and giveaways! Everyone is welcome!

Sincerely,
Layne Talbot

Good info to read. We plan on building a pool and covered patio in the next few years. For the folks that have a ice machine outdoors...do y'all leave it turned on 24/7? Or only when you have parties/gatherings? What about fridge? On all the time? Or as needed?

As for fans, my gym has some that crank out some air! Air King. Wall mount.

We are in the process of building a new house and this thread bump has the wheels spinning.

For our outdoor kitchen, I'm planning on doing a large BGE (the only outdoor cooking implement i currently own), a pellet smoker built in, and i was planning on doing a gas grill. Now i think I'm going to switch over to a griddle instead. This will be natural gas instead of propane

I like the idea of the gas hookup for crawfish/ turkeys as we do those a few times per year. Can that be done with natural gas or does it need to be propane?

Also, i plan on having a small fridge (they are cheap) and I'm definitely having an ice maker somewhere in the house. Any thoughts from those who have an ice maker if you would put it inside or outside?

Our ice maker is in the house. If it's an under cabinet unit, it should last much longer. I bought some 10lb ice bags on Amazon and generally keep 2-3 filled bags in our deep freezer in case we need extra ice for coolers

Good call on the flat top griddle instead of the gas grill. When I want something grilled it goes on the BGE. Every thing else gets cooked on the Blackstone

Put in a warming drawer in our outdoor kitchen and it is handy. Keeps food warm after cooking until your ready to eat and also keeps pizza warm for kids while swimming in the summers.

We have an ice maker in the house that stays on 24/7 unless we leave on vacation and one outside that stays on the majority of pool/outdoor season, both are Scotsman and both are outdoor units. The only reason we don't leave it on full time is the in house one is tied to the septic line and the outdoor one is tied into basically a French drain type system. No reason to have all that water on the yard when it's not needed. Only takes about three hours to have enough ice for a smallish party. They will require cleaning every 4-6 months and my indoor unit always has the dirtiest coil. Lastly, the sound from from the ice falling and hitting the bottom or sides of the units when low or empty can be very annoying if you are always turning them on and off.
