At what age should a dad show his son how to mow the yard. I'm talking about a push mower.

Dad taught me at 8-9. Had my own business by 12.
The story isn't that [DeSantis] "couldn't win" the primary. The story is that an overwhelming majority of our population is heinously stupid. 50% of them vote for communists. 75% of the remaining 50% vote for Trump, who cant win. When the majority of the opposition party insists on voting for an opposition candidate who can't win, you get exactly the government you deserve. - Well Endowed Ag

My boy started when he was 11. Our yard has quite a slope to it, so he wasn't strong enough to push it up the hill through thick grass until that age. But now I pay Juan.

Hopefully your kids ask you to do it before you have to offer to teach him. That's how I did it. My dad wouldn't let me though. He said I'd scald his lawn.

Kind of like shooting a shotgun, it depends more on size and strength than age.

One of a dad's greatest pleasures is sitting back watching his boy mow the lawn.

One of a dad's saddest days is having to go mow his own lawn because his boy is off at college.

It's a circle of life thing.

If you've taught them to shoot and respect a firearm, then the next lesson is mowing.

At least that's how my father handled my brother and I.

Then years later after all of that mowing, it added up to a brand new, in the box, all of my own, 10/22!

Got said Ruger at age 10.

I was 8 years old. It was a push mower with a 3.5 HP Briggs. Tall grass would kill that motor every time.

My boy is 7 and I can't wait until the day comes and he is able to mow. Especially in those dog days of summer.

If the kid is big enough to pull start it and see over the handle bars, get after it.

I took my then 6 month son mowing with me once. He sure did love it but I got in trouble. He was too sensitive to all the dirt and got some rash. I got called some not so nice words from the wife. Still a proud dad moment though

Dad cut me loose at 8 to mow a large yard with the trusty Lawn-boy.

When my little brother turned 8 and I started griping, it turned out that he had a "grass allergy" according to Mom.

I called BS, mowed the yard then beat his @ss. Every time.

I was mowing by age 10. Was solely responsible for it until off to college.

Dad always did the sidewalk edging, which I was happy to never take over.

Started the boy at 11 and he did all tasks by 12.

I'm on over an acre and just got a new riding mower.

Lawn time is my "me" time.... he can run the weed eater

Mine started around 7 when he asked - I would normally do the "outline or harder areas". He also learned the hard way and it took him 2-3 hours to mow a yard that took me 45-minutes. He missed several spots and had to go clean them up.

Another time he accidently cut part of the neighbors front yard and he had to cut the rest of it....simple lesson on trespassing.

This. Growing up I was never good enough to handle the riding mower but I could always do the weedeating and push mowing.

Same as most here. 8ish...

Bugged my dad to weedeat until he let me aunt 10ish.m and I regretted being so determined to take care of the lawn from then on

My son has been mowing since he was about 9. I still weedeat, as my echo will cut off your leg. I am thinking about getting a Ryobi 18v battery weedeater to go with my Ryobi cordless batteries, that way he can do all of it. First time someone besides me has done the yard in a place I lived, since I was 8!!! Man...was I happy to see that day.

My grandpa gave me that mower, and it still runs like a champ. The wheels are fine.

My son tried last summer right before turning 8. Too damn skinny. He can't push it worth the hassle of me letting him.

However he is good at feeding and watering the dogs and picking up all the dog crap once a week.

I started with the push mower around 8 or 9. My nephew was running my brother's zero turn by 8. Times how they change.

My four year old "helped" this past week. I can see him doing it on his own in 2 years.

I don't remember my age, but when I was strong enough to push the damn thing.

Of course being female and very tall at a young age, I was mowing earlier than the neighborhood boys.

Same story here, I was about 9 by the time I was big enough to push it through the taller grass out back but couldn't start the stupid thing for another couple of years.

Growing up it was a pretty simple formula - want more cash? Find the lawn mower, vacuum and scrub brushes, or wash a car. Neighbors also had cars and mowed areas around the house so there was a pretty reliable source of income out there.

My 10 year old has been mowing with a push mower for 2 years. He's finally heavy enough to hold the safety switch on the riding mower down so he will get to us it more (if it ever rains again).

He blew up our push mower (it was on its last leg) and "we" bought a new one together. Now he knows to check the oil, air filter, fuel before he gets started.

Well being as I am Mexican, I'm pretty sure my 1st birthday present was a lawn mower.

I can't remember the age I started, but I know it was before 10. It also wasn't a push mower since we lived on 3 acres. Now, when I was in HS, our riding lawn mower broke down and it took the shop over a month to fix it, so my dad bought a push mower and told me the yard needed to be mowed by the time he got home from work the next day. That was a really chitty day, let me tell you.

I'm imagining you with a baby bjorn pushing a lawn mower in the hot sun while screaming to your wife from the backyard, "Hunny, look! He's doing it! Our baby boy is really doing it! He's a lean, mean, lawn mowing machine!!!" The scene cuts to your baby's face who is crying inconsolably. Grass trimmings and pollen are blasted in his face and a diffuse rash develops, all the while you remain oblivious to your son's distress and he continues to cry. The scene ends with a shot of your wife glaring through the backdoor, she rolls her sleeves up and curses the day she met you.
