eh, yes it's a bit overboard, but for the area, having a big 'fraidy hole isn't a bad thing, plus could double as a great wine cellar.

Rent the guest house out or make it a retreat area for groups of 20 or so.

Not sure what land costs out there but seems like not a bad deal for a couple of awesome custom houses on 200 acres. Looks like you just about get all the tinfoil hat stuff for free. Maybe she wanted out because he skimped so bad on the kitchen?

One of the NIKE missile silos was for sale a few years ago east of Dallas. ~15,000 sq ft below ground structure, 3 separate silos conected by tunnels. They were located on ~15 acres. Still had guard shack (concrete house) at the entrance and maintenance buildings on site, as well as a runway going right down the middle of the property. They were asking 400k at the time, and I couldn't convince my wife to send our kids to the schools in the area.

The ones in the DFW area stored the missiles horizontally so the entire structure was ~40' below grade. They are pretty fun to see and walk through.

When you are that rich, what else do you do with your money? I doubt I'd spend 4 mil on it, but i'd do something similar with serious fortifications.

There's a map on the listing, not sure what the mystery here is.

That was easy and I'm not even familiar with the area. Go to Canyon, Texas on Google Earth and find where pasture land turns into a draw. Not sure why my mind went West first, but it took about 20 seconds.

Is that a dairy farm or a feed lot to the east? Does Canyon get winds out of the east often?

The Realtors page has the location of a piece of property in the top right corner thumbnail, satellite definitely doesn't match the photos though.

That land might come with the sale of the ranch, not sure. But they specifically didn't say where the ranch house was for whatever reason.

I don't believe that land has anything to do w/ the sale. I'm pretty sure it's just giving a potential buyer the general area of the home.

But, it's not hard to find if you look around the general area... say, within about a 6 mile radius.

I'm by no means a prepper but how bad a$$ would that be to own?? I mean if money isn't an issue, why not??

That's not the piece of property for sale.

It's all a little hazy now, but I seem to remember riding our bikes out to his place after school once or twice from the old junior high.

Just me here, but if I was going to drop a bunch of money on a "it's the end of the world and I need high walls and isolation" set up, it would be a little further from a town of 15,000 than a junior high kid could bike to in less than 20 minutes.

Used to be a pretty piece of property.

Little known fact: The leader of that cult (Marshall Applewhite) was born in Texas & went to A&M for a semester before dropping out.

When the whole thing went down, my prof. comes walking in class talking about it. Turns out Applewhite was his room mate at A&M. He said he always wondered what happened to him.

Not really. I thought it would be hard to find, but several people have already. It was easy for me, as it had to be west of town on either Palo Duro Creek or Tierra Blanca Creek. When I saw the orientation of the grain elevators and the milk plant, I knew which one it was. Then I got to thinking about where Bender's friend used to live, and figured it out. Yes, that's a small feedlot to the east, and a high traffic road to a gravel pit to the west

The aerial video showing the curved road around the gully in the background gives the location away easily.
