I got to spend the last week in Kansas hunting with my dad, my cousin and another buddy. We had an absolute blast. The weather was freezing cold and deer were moving every day. We all 4 ended up getting a deer and made some memories to last a lifetime.
My buddy got the week started off right when he shot his very first deer, a big ol' gnarly 7 point. Excited doesn't begin to describe it. I think I might have been as excited as he was and the trip was worth it at this point.
The next few days were full of deer but nothing hit the ground. We hunted hard, we just didn't have anything to show for it except pictures.
Friday afternoon, around 5:20, everything changed. The next 10 minutes would involve 3 deer hitting the ground. Right at 5:20 I heard a gunshot from the direction my cousin was hunting and I texted my dad who was a few miles away to let him know. I put my phone down and looked up, only to see a good buck walk over the hill. Boom, deer #2 down. I get out of my stand and walk to my deer, check my phone and see that I've received a message that says " I just got a deer," from my dad. 10 minutes and 3 good deer, that's how it's supposed to work.
My deer.
All 3 deer. Me, my dad, and my cousin. My cousin's deer was his 2nd deer ever and is probably gonna measure out somewhere over 150 inches. He set the bar pretty high for his next one.
Replaying the moment he saw the deer fall....
Have you ever tried loading a small horse into the back of a tall truck? I definitely got cussed for taking pictures instead of helping.
Recovering and tagging dad's deer.
Heading back in the man cave for a little story telling time.
I would have been happy if one of us got a good deer, the fact that all 4 got one and the way it happened made this a trip to remember. Hunting with my family, seeing a good friend get his first deer and another get his first good deer, it couldn't have worked out any better. We've been home one day and have already started counting down till we leave next year!
