I just realized that I wont an ALG 6-second mount from Geissele in its God Bless Texas raffle. I have no idea what the mount is for though. Can someone please educate me what this is for? Also, I guess I am going to need to get a Glock so that I can use it

If you have seen a picture of Bender's open class Glock 22, the mount he uses for his optic is that I believe.

I love the ALG 6 second mount.

First thing to determine is if you won the RMR version or the T-1 version.

The purpose of the 6SM is to allow you to frame mount a red dot to a full size glock (17,22). Red dots on pistols are great if you've never experienced using one. They're easy to pick up in low light, simplify aiming (focus on target only and the dot just shows up on target instead of having to line up target, front sight, rear sight) and a lot of fun to shoot.

Frame mounted dots like the 6SM are my preferred style over dots mounted on the slide because it takes the weight of the dot off the reciprocating slide, which can cause malfunctions. It also takes some of the stress off the dot itself as it isn't getting slammed back and forth with every shot. Finally, you can keep an eye on the dot under recoil easier on a frame mounted setup, allowing for faster shooting/target transitions.

Because the mount wants the dot as low as possible on the slide, you do have to remove the sights. Some people don't like that, but I've shot mine in lots of competitions (and even carried it) and the dot has been reliable so far. Even if the dot itself failed, putting a target in the glass of the sight is good enough for hits at close range if it did fail me.

I use mine to shoot USPSA Open and Steel challenge. If you want to do that, I'd recommend getting a Glock 22 to shoot 40 with to qualify for major scoring. Otherwise, if you want to just plink, use it for home defense or steel challenge, grab a 17.

If you are going to compete with it (or even if you're not), ALG also makes a mag well for glocks that really helps with grip and reloads. Here's a picture of my glock with the 6SM and magwell attached:



Of course, I went real crazy with mine and upgraded the trigger, added a threaded barrel and compensator, etc to shoot Open class with. Love this gun.



Dots help you shoot fast and at distance too. Here's the gun with my 6SM shooting a steel stage, clearing 27 targets in 27 seconds. I also can make reliable hits on a B-27 target at 100 yards with this set up.



The 6SM really expands what a good pistol shooter can do with a Glock. Congrats on winning one.

If you need tools to remove the sights on a Glock to install the mount, or help in general let me know. I've got tools you can borrow and if you're in my area (central Texas) I can walk you through the installation process too if you'd like, or let you shoot mine if you can't decide if you want to keep it or sell it.

Make sure you strip your iron sits from the pistol, eye believe you won't be able to get the slide off. Correct me if I'm wrong Bender

I've added a G magwell since I took the pic.

I may end up selling it since I am not really in the market for buying a Glock just to use the accessory. If I could fit it on my XD-9 though i would probably keep it. I am going to take a look at it when it comes in next week. I also love the video, makes me realize im not nearly as good as I think i am lol

Thanks. I'm a solid middle of the pack shooter. You should see the guys that beat me every single match shoot.

I get not wanting to buy a gun for an accessory, but police trade in G22s are as low as $300. Add in a primary arms or holosun red dot under $200 and you're into a red dot pistol set up super cheap. Those 6SMs retail for around $250 so if you've ever been curious about red dot pistols you're in a position to try it cheaply. If you don't like it after trying it you'd still be able to sell a used 6SM for probably $200 and get most of your money back on the Glock and red dot to boot.

I've carried mine. With the light and mag well mounted. It's my preferred gun for walking the dogs at night.

A good belt and a fishing shirt covers it up pretty well.

I've shot a few USPSA matches. Seeing even a good B class shooter run a stage is something. Watching a Master or Grand Master is awesome. It is a lost of fun and will help you with balancing speed and accuracy if you apply yourself.

Here's some footage from a GM shooting open. There are guys faster than this too, but it should give y'all an idea.

If you carry with red dot, does it automatically turn on when you get pistol into position? Or is that an extra thing you have to turn on when you draw?

I keep it on. Some dots come with an auto on feature when they see motion, but its easier for me to just keep it on when I carry it or compete with it.

If I get an rmr I'll slide mount it just to try the other way to red dot.

I'm about to be in more of a selling than buying phase anyway.

I have listed else where for 200 but I would let it go for 175 for yall
