Who's doing some kind of mosquito control? Recommendations?

I have a ~4000sq ft back yard in Houston. We "live" in all of it, garden on one side, sitting and patio area on the other. After Harvey bugs are everywhere.

Options...
- mosquito Joe's or some service that sprays
--- can you just DIY the spray?
- mist system, diy option here?
- propane mosquito magnet
- other? wife is tired of bug spray smell

About once a month.

We do Citronella plants on the porch and spray the yard every 3 weeks during bug season with Cutters bug lawn spray.

Biden in a backpack sprayer. I do it every three weeks which is probabkh overkill, but it works. Get in shrubs, under eaves, etc

Was told that FEMA is funding Wharton county to spray 100% of the county for mosquitoes. Rural areas included.

That's great, I'm sure it's pretty bad over there. Thankfully our neighborhood had no water in homes. It's been a long couple weeks helping guys who did flood...can't imagine being in their shoes

How much was the whole rig for that?

I have spent hundreds of dollars trying different ways to control mosquitoes.
I live in Sargent Tx Mosquito Capital of the world.

Go to amazon and get a Gimore air o magic hose end sprayer,none of the other hose end work well at all, I have tried them all it atomizes better than all the other hose end sprayers. A pump up sprayer will take forever.

Also at amazon get Bifen orBifenthrin same chemical get the generic 7.9% and use 1oz per gallon.

You will also not have fire ants.

I have the stihl sr200. Well worth the money. Bought it from Southwest Fertilizrer in bellaire. And buy Bifen here. http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/bifen-it-p-226.html?rrec=true

Bifen IT is the generic for what the pros spray outside AND inside your home (Bifen XTS has better residual but is labelled for outdoor use only). Bifen IT sprayed indoors will prevent roaches and other bugs, and is pet and kid safe once dry.

You might also add an IGR like NyGuard to your mix. It will help kill the eggs before they hatch.

Malathion

These will all provide good control.

For those doing work on the coast you can purchase permethrin embedded clothing at a sporting goods store.

Anyone have experience with chrysanthemum oil as a repellent?

Port o Connor had a cropduster fly over this past weekend and spray for mosquitoes.

Bifenthren is amazing. Just remember to rotate chemistries every few treatments. Malathion is killer on mosquitoes as well

Daddio, where in Sargent are you? Has your spray been effective this week? Spent the last week at our place down there and the pterodactyls were crazy and I use FX monthly for my water lot. Thinking about getting a utv mounted sprayer for my dry lots.

The propane foggers have been very useful in this huge outbreak. I wouldn't solely rely on it, but would be a good thing to add to spraying.

After the hurricane the mosquitoes were the size of small birds in el campo.

*****..that reminds me to call and register my beehives with the county so those idiots don't camp out on my road with heir foggers and destroy them. What an asspain.

On this topic you can also buy Permethrin and treat your own clothing.

Permethrin Spray

I use this stuff to treat my outdoor clothes with and I've noticed it makes a big difference with mosquitos and ticks. It lasts a few washes before you have to re-treat but I prefer it to putting DEET on bc it does nasty stuff to certain materials, specifically my fly lines. A few things to note though. It's not necessarily a repellent so mosquitoes will still land on you however they generally go into a death quiver before being able to bite you. I know a few people who've gotten some skin irritation from wearing clothes treated with it so maybe test a small part of your clothes to make sure it doesn't irritate your skin. Lastly, it smells a little funny. It'll make whatever you treat smell similar to a burlap sack. Doesn't really bother me but you will smell like a hippy.
