I think what they're saying is the weather is the equivalent of Katrina which may be true.

However, the damage and devastation won't be. Luckily this part of Texas is relatively unpopulated. Katrina happened in major metro area that is a bowl sitting below sea level.

So while it may be the same conditions as far as strength, rainfall, etc, the damage won't be comparable.

Yes, it's their job. I'm not suggesting careless and reckless rescues. But they ought to be out there helping people.

EMT save lives of moron junkies all the time. You don't get to pick who's life is worth saving. People should not be in Rockport, but they are.

Nowhere to take the victims? Nonsense. A building might be collapsed on a family. Any place would be better than under a building.

Mandatory evacuation? If you didn't have any idiots, then cops would be unemployed.

If I was a cop or EMT in Rockport, I would be ashamed to show my face - if I maintained a "shelter in place" while people were dying.

I think part of the problem is, the first responders dont have all the weather equipment that will tell them when the storm will start back up. They cant be out the in the elements trying to rescue a bunch of dumb dumbs when the winds and debris start flying again.

That rant aside...

I don't think there a bunch of police and emergency personnel doing nothing. They might not be out there at 125+ winds but travel is nearly impossible. But once it got down to 70 mph, they were looking for people to rescue. Certainly, during the eye it was all hands on deck.

It doesn't say they are seniors or residents of the facility.

My guess is it's people that didn't evac, tried to seek shelter in the center, and are now fcked.

They also just reported that people are trapped in the police station. It's difficult to save people when you can't even save yourself.

Not during the eye. It's moving 7mph. There are multiple cars driving around Rockport right now streaming.

They have a window and my guess is they're at least fielding calls and trying to help some people that are also within the eye.

There was a mandatory evacuation yesterday. A curfew in place at NOON today. You cannot force idiots to leave.
