Doubtful. If it's 2 story, 2nd floor is possibly safe from water. And depending When it was built and the rest of the neighborhood, will affect the overall outcome.

Hopefully they followed the mandatory evacuation.

Buddy of mine who has a small place in Sargent was leaving last night but decided to turn around and stay. Place is on the water and I'm not sure why he thinks staying will help anything.

Talk to him this morning, he's determined to ride it out but I asked what if you get swept out to sea, he didn't respond.

I hate to say, but if it's on the gulf side of 361, I would be expecting the worst. The storm surge is gonna be bad.

Ike's storm surge got up the beach pretty decent. Sake with Dolly that year. For Ike, our yard was flooded, and I'm over by the community pool. I know that the water was above the bulkheads in the harbor, and the boat owners were walking in water at their docks.

Yeah, I don't get that. What does he think he can do? I guess he wants to go down with the house. The house can always be rebuilt and he can have many more years of fishing if he leaves.

Yes, insured.

It's like a traditional home on slab - first floor is kitchen, living, etc.

Guess they think San Antonio will not get too bad. Taken from a txt a few minutes ago:

"Sitting in the Randolph AFB aircraft evacuation plan briefing. Not near as bad as we thought last night. 40-50mph winds, 10-20 inches of rain. Low probability of tornadoes. Base is only evacuating 20% of its planes (high demand, low density assets). All things considered, pretty good news. "

I don't understand how that area is allowed to have living areas on the first floor. I haven't looked at the flood plain map, but surely that community is in the area where you have to have breakaway walls, no living, etc. I thought those houses are relatively new in that community.

If this thing turns north just a tad you need to beg him to gtfo.

Sitting in my cubicle right now wishing I was still in bed. Lots of dark clouds over the Galleria at the moment. Pretty eerie driving in this morning to see very little activity on the road

You can hear our building moving with the wind...

This should get your attention. Especially if you have decided to stay and ride it out. This is an unprecedented response asset request for the state.

Missouri Task Force 1 Deploying as a Type III Team for Hurricane Harvey

Missouri Task Force 1has been activated for deployment to the Texas coast in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.

Missouri Task Force 1 has been activated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to deploy as a type III task force along with Ohio Task Force 1, Utah Task Force 1 and California Task Force 5. Two other teams will deploy as Type I teams and those are Tennessee Task Force 1 and Nebraska Task Force 1. They will also deploy HEPP-3 from Indiana Task Force 1 and HEPP 4 from Colorado Task Force 1, HazMat Equipment Push Package.

Missouri Task Force 1will deploy within four hours as a Type III team which includes 37 personnel, 10 ground support personnel and over 100,000 pounds of equipment. The task force is also authorized to add an additional swift water rescue component to the cache of equipment as well as 14 swift water rescue technicians as part of the 37 personnel. The task force will be headed to the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, to stage and await their mission assignment. The target is to arrive in San Antonio by 5 p.m. tomorrow.

Missouri Task Force 1 will be leaving the Boone County Fire Protection District Headquarters, located at 2201 I-70 Drive NW, Columbia, MO within the next four hours.

Do you think it's more a factor of having competent and prepared leadership at the top, or the potential danger of this storm?

Not done intensifying. Eyes about to eat a lot of energy from deep bands and high tstorms

I think it is a smart and prudent decision by TDEM and the Governor. I also think it speaks to the incredible geographic area that will have to undergo wide area search post event and the post event rescue and evacuation. It should also serve as a mesaage to those who choose to stay.

My aunt, uncle, and cousin have decided to ride it out in Corpus. Their houses are boarded up, but I'm still worried sick about them. We got my grandmother to evacuate, but the rest of the family wanted to stay. My uncle owns a glass business and has been working his tail off boarding up businesses and houses all around town.

I also highly doubt our family fishing cabin in Baffin Bay will still be there.

Same here. I have close family that has refused to evacuate and I'm scared to death. Appears to make land fall as a intense Cat 3 am I right?

Headed to Austin. Swore I wouldn't leave but wife is there with kids and having some medical issues. Really hard to leave home and business behind. Going to come back as soon as is humanly possible.

And I just realized it's my bday.

Where to do all these teams stage?

I work on Ellington Field and there is LOTS of movement (Humvees, trailers, trucks, boats, etc) around the field and the Coast Guard station on-site is buzzing.

Nobody at the coast should be riding this out. They need to leave. Harvey is going through an Eyewall Replacement Cycle, and if the second eyewall finishes forming, it could strengthen to a Cat4 before landfall. It's moving slow over very warm water. Then it's going to sit there and dump rain for 2-3 days. Tell them to get out.

Same situation. But that house survived Cecilia so there's that I guess...

That's what I've been hearing. Strong cat 3.

My SIL is in Clear Lake and she's due with her third any day now. I know that you want to be close to your preferred doctor for delivery, but I wish she and her family would stay with other family in Kingwood.

Both. Harvey from what I can read (and news stations are saying) has the potential to just drop buckets of rain and bring an amount of water associated with a hurricane/tropical storm Houston hasn't seen in a couple of decades. Add to it that the potential and aggressiveness this storm has hit within the last 24 hours makes it fearsome.

EyeGuy and I were sitting there at work in the morning talking about how it was picking up steam and that by noon it had reached a point where it was going to become a hurricane. By 5 it had an eye and our discussion shifted from what we were going to do if business was slow Saturday to lets move the majority of the merchandise and whether or not we should close early or open at all on Saturday. In less that 24 hours-by this morning, Harvey had dropped pressure to cat 3 level. That's awesome, and not in a good way.

I think the state isn't taking chances due to the potential threat this storm has. I really those types of assets will end up going to more coastal areas, but who knows.

What are some of the latest models? Are they really expecting it to run the coast?
Lonestar06

That's what I've been afraid of. We have tried to convince them to evacuate to no avail so far.

My 13 year old son was asking me about The Lexington in Corpus. He wants to know if they take it out to sea to avoid the storm, or if that's even possible. He's also worried about the old planes on the deck. He was asking if they can lower all of them down below deck or not.

Anyone know? Thanks!
Aggie_3
