Surface pressure on Harvey has dropped 15 mb in the last 2 hours. It has dropped 10 mb in the previous 15 hours and 40 mb in the last 24 hours. Right now its a 952 mb. That's approaching a category 4 level storm pressure (944 mb). Hopefully it doesn't continue to drop, or he could become a mean SOB quickly. Its already grown teeth the last 2 hours.

Dr. Jeff Masters was just on TV saying that it usually takes the storm 6-12 hours to catch up to the core pressure drop. He thinks it strengthens all the way until landfall. Saying landfall closer to CC, but winds may now be on the high side of a 3.

LStorm surge maps are crazy to look at.

Lived down here all my life. Seen SPI covered in water from gulf to bay but recovery time was relatively short.....not to discount the effort it took nor the losses that some of us incurred.

.......that being said, what they're showing for CC to Matagorda, in particular, is hard to fathom.

We stayed a few days in our motor home at aREALLY nice private RV park on Mustang Island last winter. The detailed map they just showed on TWC has that park 6-9 FEET under water with waves on top of THAT.
If that materializes, I don't suppose there will be anything left there but a few concrete pads. Pads that were selling for > $125,000.

Nuts. Storm surge is going to be unbelievably harsh.

As long as they aren't in a low laying area of BC I bet they will be ok

SPI- do have a link to the surge map you were looking at? My in laws live in palacios and we have been trying to get an idea of how bad this is going to be for them.

My inlaws are there as well. Boarded up and battened down the hatches last night, but it's still going to be rough. Odds are I'll be heading that way in the next few days to help them out. I think their place is pretty high (relatively speaking), but still, with as wet as it has been this year there is no freeboard for saturation in the ground and trees are going to be much easier to topple in high wind.

TWC is showing the storm surge map at neighborhood levels every 10-15 mins

Folks have a house in Island Moorings, believe they'll skirt by if the map holds correct on water.

What strength are we at right now?

My father tried to build a retirement home in Rockport but the contractor walked off the job a year ago with the house framed but not enclosed.

The property has been on the market for 6 months the now.

The house does not stand a chance but is still insured.
