Have any of y'all used this Dual Sack Crawfish Cooker from Academy, or one like it? I'm trying to tell the wife that I need one and she told me to ask here if anyone has used one first. Yes I know buy then ask forgiveness unfortunately, in this situation it would prove damn near impossible.

So what you say OB?

I've used my uncle's that's very similar and I have a cousin that makes them. They are awesome cookers but they have ones that aren't a pos like the academy ones.

Good to know. Where's your cousin located out of? The academy one has great reviews.

He's located out of the spring/woodlands area. I'm sure the academy one works just fine but seeing the quality of construction between other ones, academy's is not built as well. But academy's is a lot cheaper. My cousin's starts at $995 for the single sack and it's built out of aluminum.

The Academy one is very nice. Last year we borrowed one and this year we bought the Academy version. They spent a lot of time studying the main competitor on the market and made some very nice improvements (offset wheels/larger drain port/much better burner).

In my opinion, this isn't like a offset bbq smoker whereby things like thickness of steel etc. need to be carefully considered (i had my pit custom made)... this is essentially a large aluminum water boiler, there just isn't much to it. The Academy version does the job quite well and I'm confident we will get lots of years out of it.

Can't speak for that particular cooker, but generally speaking the Outdoor Gourmet brand is fairly solid. Not top of the line by any stretch, but usually they are well built and are good values for the price.

As stated above - you are boiling water, not a whole lot of effort needs to go into the design of that process.
