Wish the gator picture wasn't so grainy - would be able to tell what the company name and logo on the hard hat is.

Something about the soils doesn't look like most of what I encounter around the gulf coast area, at least north and east of Corpus anyway. Reminds me a lot of what I've seen in the Florida region more than the Beaumont formation we generally deal with here, but that's just a wild assed guess.

I have tried doing the exact thing with no luck. I am almost certain it's FL though.

I'd almost put money on it. East of the Mobile river there are some changes in the soils, just looking at that picture it makes me think of something I see over that direction versus anything I've dug through here on the coast.

The link i posted previously and this link both have a guy claiming the gator was from Tampa FL on April 23, 2001.

Would seem reasonable. I'd have guessed almost anywhere east/south of Panama City down to around the Cape Coal/Naples area based on the color of the soil. Just has that Florida panhandle sandy clay look to it.
