This is the finale of this thread where Fido96 suggested Texags crowdsource and I build a medal display box for Sam Kendricks.
After much internet stalking (Texags knows stuff) we got in touch with Sam and I worked out details of what he wanted and I got started. We settled on a walnut burl box, trimmed in ebony, lined with aromatic cedar, and with cutouts for his medal, watch and ring from the olympics.
I present the final product:
The only thing that will change is the wood where the medal is sitting will be dyed black. I made it a friction fit and removable in case he needed to mail it back to adjust the fit. But I mixed and sent him some dye so he will pop the piece out, dye it black, and set it back in to help the medal stand out more.
It was an awesome project, and Sam was great to work with. Thanks for all that donated. Only a place like Texags could come together to organize something like this.
