As part of doing his best to eliminate as many opponents as possible, he struck a deal with the Illinois Firearms Manufacturers Association (IFMA). In a recent article, author John Boch wrote that Jay Keller, IFMA's lobbyist, traded that group's opposition to the bill in exchange for a carve-out, removing Prairie State firearms manufacturers from the licensing requirements. To be clear, that means Illinois manufacturers who are members of IFMA, get a pass from everything. Guess who are the two major IFMA funding sources: Springfield Armory and Rock River Arms. The two 500-pound gorillas in Illinois' gun manufacturing sector.
Due to the above, they dropped both of their oppositions to the bill. Leaving all other FFL's to now fight this instead. Mom and pop stores will be destroyed by this bill. Just more gun grabbing from IL.

Both have claimed that the they had "no idea" the IFMA would make the deal and are insisting they are going to continue and fight the bill.

Regardless I don't own any Springfield or RRA and have no future plans to do so.

I own a RR AR-10.

It is so choice, but if this is true I won't own another.

Curious. How will they "exempt" the big box stores and hit the smaller guys legally? This is not my area but that seems very unfair.

It's seems like a law applied differently. Can they really do that? If so why couldn't similar laws be enacted to help the big box stores put all small business owners out of work, in other areas? I don't see how this will ever pass/hold up to a court challenge. It's interesting.

I know there's some smart people on here..maybe they can shed some light

LOL. Yeah, there is no way that is true. The IFMA has 4 Directors. 1 is Dennis Reese, the CEO of Springfield. The 2nd is Tom Reese, the co-chairman of the board at Springfield. The 3rd is Chuck Larson, the CEO of RRA.

And it turns out the IFMA has been making contributions to anti-2A politicians in IL for at least the last 5 years.

I will continue to not buy anything from either of those companies.

Only thing either makes that would be remotely worth buying to me is a 1911, so it's not a big loss.

Lol. Too little, too late. Dennis Reed is a director of the IFMA. To think he didn't have knowledge of this is laughable. And it fails to address the IFMA donating tens of thousands of dollars to anti-2A politicians over the last few years.

The IFMA did exactly what a lobbyist group is supposed to do: protect its donors. So they carved out an exemption to cover Springfield and RRA and in doing so screwed over all the other FFLs and gun owners in the state. Springfield isn't mad about what the IFMA did. They are mad that they got caught.

Well then. Won't be buying Springfield products anymore. I only have one of their 1911s and it isn't going anywhere Bc it was my first.

But ya **** those guys

Seriously?!? Did they not think this would get out? And did they think that their customer base wouldn't care?

They just sent me an email asking me to let all my friends and family know that they should oppose the bill.

I got the same email. I started to send a reply, but decided not to waste my time telling them to go **** themselves.
