I spend about half my day in a job trailer and the other half of the day outside on the right of way. With it getting hotter, I've seen many people out on the job keeping their yeti/RTIC/brute/abonimal snowman ice box in their truck bed with a case of water and ice. I'd like to keep mine in my truck bed but would it rather not dissapear if I can make a good effort to secure it.

My question to y'all is how do you secure yours to the bed so you're over priced ice box doesn't get legs and walk off?

Overpriced Yeti lock

This is what I use. If you get one that isn't marketed as Yeti I believe they are closer to $20.

I bought the same lock by itself at academy for $14 (or around that) and just bought the metal cooler attachment for $8 on Amazon

In San Antonio they know how to run through these like a hot knife through butter. Do y'all know of anything that will keep the "bad hombres" away, or at least challenge them?

Why do you need a 500$ cooler to keep your water cold on a job site?

This is baffling t o me

The best way to prevent theft of an overpriced cooler is to not buy one.

Well if it's a pretty big job site that spans a few hundred miles you may find it convenient to have cold water with you as you're driving/working along it every day. Also since I've already got one it seems pretty convenient to fill it once a week with water and ice

Man, I'm glad you asked. My favorite part of every yeti thread is when people come up with the most ridiculous reasons that they needed a yeti. It's hilarious how people come out to justify it to themselves and think they sound believable.

Solid input but I haven't ever bought one, I've had 4, all gifted. I have 2 left, one was jacked out of my truck bed and the other some how mysteriously disappeared during the summer after sophomore year

It will take them a good while + a lot of noise to get this off my hitch/trailer.

Do not buy the below. Its garbage. Can easily be cut through with bolt cutters.

I keep a roadie in the back of my truck at all times. It has one of those brackets someone listed above with a large chain & a large master lock on each end. I haven't had any issues yet.

I keep my 20 Qt in the cab, holds a full case of water & a bag of ice. Easily enough for a few days.

I have a recently acquired RTIC, so I'm not judging. I got in on the recent sale, but I did shell out for mine. You have a fair question, my post was more in jest.

I work for KMI and understand the need for a rugged cooler. I don't think most folks are going to understand that being able to beat these coolers up is more beneficial than ice longevity.

That being said, I'll have to pay more attention to the pipeliners on my projects, particularly the welders. I would bet there are some creative solutions out there, but I think most folks remove the back seat, limo tint the rears, and keep their coolers there.

Is putting the cooler inside the truck and locking the doors not an acceptable option?

I usually find that the pissed off bear that can't get into my cooler is usually deterrent enough.

Yeah, those Baylor beer thieves sure think they're sly. And they're only pissed off because they have to go to Baylor.

I value my cooler more than anything so I bought a truck with an enclosure to store it in so I don't have to worry about it.

Must be a case of the little 8 oz "baby" water bottles and a real small bag of ice....

I don't want to sound like a cooler hipster (I had a yeti before it was...umm...cool), but damn this yeti crap has gotten out of control. I got mine as a birthday gift around 7 years ago. It's a little beat up and I had to replace the locking mechanism (had to drill new holes). But, this new yeti crap seems to me to go hand in hand with bro country.

Th only answer to this question is simple but yet to be mentioned.

Jack the pickup up so high that he average thief cannot see into the bed without climbing onto the bumper or tire. Buy tires that come up to your waist. The average cholo Doesnt want to hike his britches up and climb onto a truck that is 7ft taller than his granfather. It takes him too much time and effort. And the meth monkey theif doesnt have the patience for this. He wants easy money to hasten his next deal. Plus these aholes stick out like a sore thumb standing atop a 75k dollar jacked up Ford.

Not kidding, it works

Just leave it in the back of the truck and then pop the first one that tries to steal it. Set him up next to the Yeti (to keep him from decomposing) for the rest of the week and let it be a warning to would be thieves.

Try and hang around people on be OB as much as possible. If they see your cooler they'll constantly remind you and those around how stupid you are for spending your money on a cooler

If they see someone trying to steal yours they will follow them around and shame them for having one. Eventually the theives will get so tired of it they'll probably just give it back to you

I was worried about that. Does it make it worse that I only put dead game and IPAs in my cooler?

My favorite part is people telling others how to spend their money when nobody asked for their budgeting advice.

Just wanted to give an update for anyone interested, I finally got tired of having to lock/unlock the cooler every time I wanted to open it. I kept my eye out for how some other people were locking up their stuff but couldn't find either a method I liked or one that I could fab (I don't weld yet). Here is the solution I came up with yesterday, similar to the Yeti Lock Bracket but it cost me $1 as opposed to $20.

Step 1: Went to Tractor Supply and picked up a u-bolt plate

Step 2: Bent the bracket in the slot on the side of the cooler until the two holes meet

Step 3: Lock through the cable and bracket

I keep mine hidden in the garage, and if I get thirsty when I'm out in the field, I just drive home and pull an ice cold drink out of the Yeti. Been doing this for 6 years, never had a problem.
