The old garden trellises for peas and such are rotting, and need replacement.
I figure hog panel configured to our needs would be a good idea.
They need some trimming if that's the way we go though.
I can't find my bolt cutters, but do have a sawzall and angle grinder.
I see some other applications around as well.
Bolt cutters seem best, but I figured I'd ask some of you guys that fool with hog panel.

Bolt cutters are probably fastest, angle grinder with a cutoff wheel is easiest.

I used bolt cutters when I built a porch fence.

Bolt cutters are best/quickest, but an angle grinder with cutoff wheel should work just fine, as well as a sawzall with a metal cutting blade.

I have been wanting a torch and welder for years. This isn't out of the conversation.

If I recall from my old oilfield days cutting galvanized with a torch can make you sick.

Go buy you a welder and torch, but still use bolt cutters or cutoff wheel for this.

Just make sure you're down wind have a fan blowing the fumes away and if you feel off drink some whole milk. If you were cutting galv pipe all day you should worry, cutting hog panel is no big deal.

After the collapse in the 80s when rig moves were scarce we'd move tank batteries, pumping units, bail wrecker companies out on big jobs, whatever to keep cash moving.
I've cut that old nasty catwalk stuff many times to make it fit.
Usually 100+degrees with no wind in an east Texas thicket.
On the bright side that job paid my way through A&M.

Remember with bolt cutters that you will have a sharp edge on the panel where you made the cut. If it is,protected and out of the way, no problem.

I can attest from, experience that those sharp, edges will slice the sidewall of a 31x10.50 all terrain tire like a hot knife through butter.

I have a 2" long x hog panel wire wide scar on my left calf where a panel fell behind me and nabbed me when I stood up to adjust the welder. That MF'er hurt worse than slag on a bicep and bled like a stuck pig.

Good to know, my primary pea picker (carpe milkum) is 4 years old.
Sharp edges could be an issue depending on the location.

If the location is on a human body then sharp edges are always an issue

Good to know as in whether the cut is against the ground, or facing carpe milkum vs. facing the peckerhead horse always eating my peas.

Then use the angle grinder with a cutoff wheel, burnish the edge when you are done with the same wheel. Takes no time at all.

Hog panel or cattle panel?

Nothing near that bad, but I am still battling a bad bruise and near penetration from a hog panel on my thigh. Thank god I had thick jeans on or I would have a nice hole in my leg. And you're spot on about the pain.

Another note:

Some people will actually cut horse panel at the top and use it for the panels around their feeder. The sharp edge it leaves and the elevated height of the horse panel, keep cows out.

I'm more of a hog panel plus one strand kind of guy but to each its own.

I worked for a hwy construction company after my fish year. I was a CE major and they were going to show me the business. They showed me the bottom of the hoppers on a portable batch plant and gave me a cutting torch and said cut all those rusty bolts off! I think I GOT the business. I can claim helping build the NB lanes of IH 35W from Burleson to Alvarado. Still hate cutting torches and use bolt cutters to cut panel.
