Has anyone here used this stuff, or can give feedback?

What's the intended use? Stand hunting whitetails in TX = overpriced couture camo. Active hunting big game out west... good stuff if you have the dough to spend. Same quality of clothing can be purchased from other alpine/outdoor/mountaineering companies, just not in the fancy camo pattern.

In the past they had problems keeping stuff in stock without a crazy backorder and wait times. Haven't checked in a while.

Very high build quality, good value when purchased when on sale. Can recommend.

Only thing I don't like is that their items are sized smaller than other outdoor brands. For example, my Mountain Hardware and Carhartt hackets are XL. Two of my Kuiu jackets are XXXL, and a fleece Kuiu jacket that is about three years old and just barely fits is XXL.

I get compliments on my Chinook jacket from strangers........

More along the lines of Alaska, Canada, Russia type of hunts/terrain.

Imagine active wear designed for rough hunting...breathable and lightweight.

Very good stuff but it's not made for stand hunting. It's made for hunting in cold conditions where you are exergeting yourself like mountain hunting, walking and scouting etc. I bought the guide jacket, pants, vest, Teton insulated jacket, and the attack pants. Basically got rid of all my old bulky heavy clothing that I've had for years. I hunt in South TX and it doesn't get miserably cold too often. Have a heater in my blind for sitting long periods but like to get out and walk to glass senderos. The stuff is so light weight is a game changer for me from what I was used to

I have quite a few of their items including a Chinook which I like very much. It is active wear. If the temperature has a minus in front of it don't plan on sitting around any length of time.

I agree on the sizing issues and I had similar results with Sitka. Those issues have gone in opposite directions but most of the time to small.

If I was rich I would wear merino for everything. Or gameday polos.

Love my Kuiu gear. Only have their gaiters and guide jacket right now. Gaiters we're incredibly useful on my elk hunt and very durable. Guide jacket was my outer layer every day. I wore it in sunshine and 45/50 degrees and in blowing snow and single digits. When layering correctly underneath, it was great in both.

The sizes are definitely on the smaller side

Think yoga pants for deer hunters.

My FL medium tall corrugates are more like skinny jeans. But I climb the **** out of mountains in them. Come at me bro.

Been looking at this stuff myself recently. Bought some first lite apparel a couple of weeks ago and really like it.

Here's my $0.02.

It's good quality gear, but a overpriced for the uses that 95% of people will put it through. I think their Vias camo is one of the very best camo patterns on the market. If you are in the market for active western hunting clothes then it should be your list to consider.

I own none of their gear because 1) their clothing is way too small, and shorter than other similar clothing brands. Further, their customer service (in my limited experience) was not very good, and was very poor compared to other similar companies, notably FirstLite.

My experience with their customer service made it very easy for me to choose to purchase from other high quality hunting apparel manufacturers.

..all that said, I have a number of friends with their gear and it is good quality.

I too seem to prefer FirstLite.
Mainly due to Kuiu running so short on me. I'm only 6-1....but I feel like I'm Dirk Nowitski trying to get their camo to fit me.

I like all the Kuiu bottoms I have. Merino 145 zips, peloton 200 zips, Kenai zips, and Attack pants. Most guys I know really like their Kuiu camo.

I prefer First Lite's merino and Fusion pattern. Sitka makes better clothing for treestand. But for versatility and fit, I find myself with Kuiu bottoms more often than not.

I like fusion the most also. And their fit.

As far as Kuiu fit, here's my data point:

I'm 5'9", 165. I wear Kuiu baselayers in size Medium and the Attack pants in size 30. All fit great.

Their baselayer Zip-off bottoms sit above your boot. So you can put them on and take them off without taking your boots off. I thought this was a dumb idea when first released. Now I love it and wish First Lite would copy.

For the areas you described hunting (Alaska, Russia...), Kuiu will be a good option to consider.

I agree with those above that said it isn't gear for stand hunting in negative degree weather. It is super light, weight-wise, which is why I bought it. You definitely have to use layers if it is cold, but I've worn it duck hunting in 20 degree weather and 40 mph wind and was toasty all morning. I haven't tested their outer shell in heavy rain yet, so that jury is out, but it is super windproof. Their super down jacket with hood and pants are great insulation layers and they are lightweight and can be folded up and packed into super small bags.

I had a great experience with their customer service. some of my gear arrived on a Wednesday before a hunt and had been damaged by some cuts/blades by UPS. I called their customer service and they had a new set of gear out to me by Friday morning in time to leave. they were super helpful and responsive. A++ on service.

I agree with your dealings with customer service. They have been excellent for me through emails, phone calls, and quick turnarounds on sizing issues

My elk hunt was Kuiu (cousin #1) vs. random crap thrown together (cousin #2 and me). #2 is a former Marine and mostly used military cold weather, he borderline froze when we dropped below 20 (every morning). #1's gear matched the terrain great, was extremely durable and comfortable, great when we started getting some bad weather, extremely comfortable temperature-wise while we were moving.....and the damn near froze his a-- off if we stopped for more than 15 minutes to glass.

The one time I spoke with Kuiu customer service, the girl I spoke to was very terse and annoying, but she answered my question, I guess. FWIW.

"If the website says we're out, then we don't have it. No, I don't know when or if it'll be back in stock. We just get deliveries of different things from time to time so I can't say if or when we'll have it back."

This was in regards to a Guide DCS jacket in Phantom. They had it back in stock 2 days later.

It's sitka quality without the marketing budget and with direct to you price.

Just an FYI. Get on their email list. They will have 30% discounts twice a year. They also run various other discounts throughout the year. My brother wears this and seems to like it. I will probably grab some pants and a jacket along with shirt at some point.
Does anyone have any recommendations on type of pants?

I will say with the "active" hunting clothing, you are absolutely doing yourself a disservice if you don't also have packable puffy gear. The Sitka/FirstLite/Kuiu type brands are built to be layerable systems. So multiple lightweight, highly packable layers that you don/remove as you stop to glass, and then get back on the move. They are all built on breathable base layers, insulating mid layers, and windproof outer layers. If you only buy 1 or 2 parts of a 3 part system you will not see the full benefit. It's expensive, but with it for mountain/backpacking type hunts.

On the other hand it makes no financial sense to me if you're sitting in a blind.

I've contacted them 3 times and this has been my general experience all three times. And it has been very different from my experiences with other similar companies. Makes it easy for me to send it money elsewhere. ... And it also points out how easy it is for just one or two employees to impact the perception of an entire business.

I've got a few things from them - my vest and light weight jacket are damn warm and super light - jacket doesn't even feel like I'm wearing anything it's so light

So good they've actually moved out of hunting only gear and into the "anytime but Sunday" side of the closet

Agreed on the puffy. My FL Uncompahgre is my favorite piece of hunting clothing... probably ever.

Almost all of my hunting clothing is FirstLite, with a few KUIU pieces to fill in spots where FL didn't offer (or was more expensive than I wanted to pay).

From KUIU I have their Teton rain set, Yukon gaiters, scree gaiters, and Super Down pants. I got the Super Down pants for last year because FL didn't offer a puffy pant... now they do for 2017.

In case you haven't made the tie in of Sitka and KUIU....Todd Harney founded Sitka in 2005.

Several years later he sold out to Gore in order to cut out the middle man and go straight online. KUIU was formed.

Do you know how to pronounce KUIU?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I believe it was actually Jason Hairston who founded Kuiu after leaving Sitka. Their gear videos on youtube is where I had to go for pronunciation.

I've never had to buy a system of hunting clothes all at once. Just pieces here or there over the years. Which is why my collection is so random. But it also helps if you don't want to pay full price. I think all my First Lite gear has been through their annual Tag Soup sale (going on now). Kuiu has random discounts throughout the year. 15% off for RMEF members, $50 gift card for signing up with gohunt.com, etc. This year they had a Father's Day sale and Black Friday sale.

Lots of good feedback above. I have their alpine pant, guide jacket, a few pairs of gloves, some base layers and a backpack. I've used it on a few elk hunts, one high country and the other lower country and it has performed great on both. Their stuff has an athletic fit so it does run a little small for some, depends on your build, and I can see where it doesn't fit well for some. The stuff I have is all constructed well and durable as you would expect from a higher end supplier like Sitka and Firstlite. I really like their base layers, the zip off bottoms are nice as you can get out of them easily when you start to heat up a bit. I do have their down base layer top but haven't used it on a bow hunt as it seems a bit noisy - its a good layer for a rifle hunt. All in all, I've been very pleased with their stuff - though it's tough to go wrong with any of the top suppliers as they all seem to put out quality materials and products

I really like my Kuiu. It is a little snugger fit than most camo, but it doesn't restrict movement and I really like that it's less bulky. Price wise, the Teton line is as affordable as most camo and is high quality. The Verdi camo pattern is very versatile for Texas hunting. My favorite piece is the super down jacket. It's very packable and can be stuffed into it's own pocket which makes it perfect for carrying in a backpack until it's needed. They have a big sale once a year. You just have to be proactive, because the popular sizes go fast.

If you haven't already go peruse rokslide.coms classified forum. Lots of gear comes through and I've bought and sold there. Would rate them less hostile than this crowd.
