They are a better group overall and not blowhards. They'd invite you on a secret hunt, take you back, slit your throat and leave you for the bears. That is more sympathetic than trapping you behind a high fence with a caffeinated fat bomb like Kate.

The tiburon pants are the absolute best warm weather pants I have found. I love them. It's hard to like kuiu as a company, but the products I have (tiburon pants, merino 210 hoody, yukon gaiters, peloton 200 gloves) are hard to beat value wise.

Curious - what's hard to like about the company?

Can't speak for NRH, but I think a couple here have had issues with their customer service. Personally, my only annoyance with the company is that they run out of stock quickly when they have their big sale. But I suppose that is the purpose of their big sale. I do really like their stuff. High quality, reasonably priced and you don't feel like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man when you are hunting in cold weather.

I know the rokslide forum is tough on Kuiu. I think most of that stems from getting on their local celebrity Aron Snyder's badside (of Kifaru and Gritty Bowmen). There's also a lot of people that stayed frustrated at the inventory issues. I've avoided this issue by ordering well in advance of a hunting trip. My experience with their customer service has been great. The women on the phone were so friendly they could make me blush.

And then there are quite few people who don't like the founder. I'm not sure if it's his arrogance or their jealousy. I'm indifferent, other than the fact they make BA pants.

Their founder is very easy to dislike because in general he acts like an arrogant ahole. They are currently in a (several?) lawsuit(s) for allegedly stiffing a few well known and well respected groups on advertising expenses. My experience with their customer service has been poor, and their inventory management has been terrible.

Their prices are in line with companies producing similar gear so I don't mind that.

My belief is they are probably a small group with a good/big idea, and neither the resources or business acumen to really pull it off. So that constantly puts them in a bad spot when it comes to inventories and paying their bills. And then when asked about these deficiencies, rather than take a little blame they instead throw a tantrum that results in far worse PR than simply taking the blame in the first place. But that is just my personal take.

When you listen to Jason Hairston versus say the Eastman guys or the First Lite guys on a podcast. It is pretty easy to take sides.

Other people hit on it, but the owner and their advertising can come across as elitist/******y. Rappelling off a glacier with your recurve just smacks of trying too hard.

I guess my overall perception of them is not as positive as First Lite or Sitka, but their prices are low enough for what they offer that it hasn't swayed me from their products. It helps their cause that they do some really great stuff like the hip vents on their pants.

I looked at First Lite tag sale yesterday and noticed some of the pics for say a pair of pants were totally useless "sitting in a tent" photos and had some similar thoughts as some have for KUIU

At the end of the day tho they both have good products and I will deal with the ups and downs of the "little guys" and their smaller runs in trade for innovation & unique products, and just to be a contrarian

So now First Lite is somehow a corporate behemoth? Because they're really just a small storefront in Idaho with limited commercial availability.

But they do have consistently good customer service, quality products and a lack of pending lawsuits (to the best of my knowledge), so I guess they're the bad guys.

who cares if they have a pending lawsuit. if y'all buy outdoors gear based on who has a pending lawsuit, you probably would be better off just staying inside and playing hacky sack to some bruno mars cds.

Maybe you didn't read all my posts. I've had great experiences with both Kuiu products and their customer service. I recommend Kuiu all the time. As well as First Lite, Sitka, Cabelas, etc. I like all these companies and think they are great for the outdoor industry.

I was trying to explain why there is an anti-Kuiu following on the interwebs. I think it mostly stems from the seeming arrogance of their founder (and yes, this is based on youtube videos and podcasts, but mostly blog posts and responses to criticism). I did meet him in person at the Dallas Safari Club, as well as the guys from First Lite.

I don't know any of them. Not Sitka, not Kuiu, not First Lite. So my only chance to get an impression of any of them is through podcasts, interviews, articles, their social media presence, etc.
