Where is a good source? I just stopped by academy and the only thing they offer is the 5.11 with the ripstop fabric. I'm looking for pants I can wear in the office but work also takes me out of the office.

Thanks guys

Have you checked out Vertx yet? I got a pair of their pants for Christmas, they are a hunting pant haven't been able to really use them yet, but they seem to be very good quality. They offer tactical and concealed carry lines of pants.

YMMV, but I've never once seen a pair of "tactical pants" that looked remotely like dress pants from anything closer than 50 ft.

I wear dress pants to work and work pants if I'm working outside. Short of a casual business dress code where I can do boots and jeans, haven't found any other solution that doesn't look out of place in one or both situations.

What are you looking to get out of the pants? By that I mean, do you want the ripstop function, extra (or zippered) pockets, freedom of movement, etc?

Edit: The first ones that came to mind are the 5.11 Covert Khaki 2.0 pants. They have a pocket on each leg, but are more hidden than typical "tactical" pockets (although I'm not sure what you'd use them for).

Thats what I was gonna ask. If ya don't need 17 pockets, there are tons of options for durable khaki pants.

Academy had their Magellan khakis on for under 20$ a week ago. not sure if they are still on sale, but I wear them sometimes at work (manufacturing facility). They look nice enough with boots and a button down, but they are pretty durable and have a good bit of stretch in em.

Is there a police supply store near you? they generally carry 5.11 and comparable non name brand pants.

Check out any of the Army Surplus type stores - In Houston I think the one that has a few locations is "Command Post Army Surplus". They carry several brands besides 5:11. The other place to look is a police supply store.

If I recall the brands were "Propper" and "Tru Spec".

I've looked at them before - and like others have said the just look like "tacticool" pants with a bunch of pockets. If you have a job where you need the pockets (EMS, Police, etc) they would probably be great. I bought a pair once and never really wore them.

Vertx's casual pants were a good compromise. I have a few pair. Looks like they've been discontinued for whatever reason, but you can still find them on the internet. I wear mine with boots and they don't look any different than regular chinos

I'm a fan of the Tru-Spec Pants

https://www.chiefsupply.com/tru-spec-24-7-series-classic-pants.html

I wear these most days in the office and when I'm teaching in the classroom.
I originally got them for when I was in Iraq, the hidden side zippers I would use to keep my Passport, US Cash and Iraqi Dinar. I even carried a knife in one of the hidden pockets (even though I wasnt suppose to be "armed") and it was all very comfortable. Other than if you were paying attention to the belt loops you would have no idea they were tactical style pants and give off a nice professional appeal. The fabric also repels water very well which is a bonus in my line of work.

edit to say as a bonus you can get them unhemmed which is great for the taller folk.

That big goofy logo on the one leg is hideous.

If the only thing you didn't like about the 5.11 pants at Academy was the ripstop, then you can probably get the same pant in a regular cotton. The ones I see at Academy the most are 5.11 Ta****e Pro Pant, you would just want the 5.11 Tactical Pant

I loved it when Royal Robin still owned the 5-11 line of pants. They used much more comfortable fabric IMHO

Pretty sure it's a photo water mark.

You mean the fact that it doesn't change position when you switch the pants color or view isn't a giveaway?

I just bought a pair of these. My new favorite pant. Fairly modern style, a little stretch but very abrasion resistant. https://www.outdoorresearch.com/en/mens-voodoo-pants.html

Marmot has some good options as well

(Ignore the user error above)

If you are looking for hidden pockets, these come to mind.

Go easy man. These days watermarks aren't used near as much as they used to be.

It wasn't meant rudely. I apologize if it came off that way.

Doesn't mean anything to me.

I will say that I double clutched that first post because I figured there is always a chance it was some Yeti/Massimo like branding instead of the rarely seen water mark.

Underarmor Covert Storm pants are very good. Nice enough to wear with a sports coat, and tough enough to wear outdoors.

They also have jeans style pockets, so crap doesn't fall out when you are sitting.

I carry a camera and Leica laser measurer and a few other odds and ends. So I don't need 20 pockets but a defintley a few. All the pants at academy were all ripstop in the ta****e pro line. If they just had the regular canvass then that would be ok

They are pricey but I love the 5.11 Tac-lite Pro pants. I started wearing them to work a while ago and no one has said anything. I'm usually in my office all day by myself anyhow. I wear them probably 3-4 days/week. They've held up extremely well and I have no complaints.

Huge fan of the Duluth Trading Company Firehose FLEX pant. I have a pair of the carpenter's style pant that has a few extra pockets but isn't tacti-cool. And then the same pant in "foreman" style which essentially is just front and back pockets. Those look like khakis. I love these pants. Be sure to get the flex version, the fabric in the standard firehose line was not nearly as comfortable.

First time I saw the price tag on the buck naked boxer briefs I thought - who would pay that much for one pair of drawers? Me that's who. They are fantastic. Only thing I wear now. Worth every penny. And pretty much indestructible.

I have a pair of Prana pants that I love. I also just got some carlos ray 2.0 from tactical distributors that I really like.

What's wrong with the rip stop fabric? I have a few pairs of the 5.11 pants and I love them. I wear them to work, church, out and about, the range...wherever. And the rip stop works. I have one pair with a small cut in it from a time my knife somehow came open and cut them. That cut hasn't grown a bit and I wear them all the time.

Rip stop just looks so unappealing to me,

It works great; just don't think think it looks as good for the office compared to khaki material

Maybe we're not looking at the same pants, but on the pants I have it's hardly noticeable. If you're not looking real close you don't see it. And anyone looking that close at my pants has something wrong with them.

I have these in khaki and I think coyote...

ETA: Stupid censoring. They're the Ta****e Pro pants.
