Hmmmmmm. I usually drink one cup a day made from either GEB/Folgers freeze dried coffee. With some flavored cream.

For some reason most other coffees tends to burn a hole in my stomach. I can drink McDonalds coffee but really on eat at McDonald when I travel throughout Asia.

In Shenjuku Prefecture in Tokyo I get up at 5am and head to the McDonalds across from Prince Hotel just get that cup of coffee and a an egg McMuffin. Usually gives me an emotional boost for the day.

Enjoy your fancy coffee (if this is your deal) and one of you just finished a cup of Folgers after recycling yesterday's ground! Someone asked about reason for "french press" at deer camp? Just a space thing, the camper is small.

Good luck to those with outdoor plans this morning.

Brown Coffee Co out of San Antonio was just named the best roaster in Texas. Anything they make its pretty good, but their "Wote" from Ethiopia is my current favorite. I'll use the French press if I have time, but usually just a good drip from our coffee maker gets me through the morning.

Ruta Maya "Dark Roast" from Costco is great coffee for a good price. I use a Bonavita coffee maker that is simple and fast.

Drinking Ruta Maya as I type this.... It's very good, but a little dark for my taste. Just like a lighter roast for me.

Mainly, coffee is like wine. Everyone will tell you to drink whatever you like, while in the same breath telling you that you are writing for liking it.

That's why it's so fascinating - it's like vanilla and chocolate - incredibly variable flavor profile.

I haven't made good coffee at home in any machine I've owned. I want to get a commercial coffee machine that brews at higher temps but right now, my counter won't really hold it due to cabinet size. As far as the coffee itself, I like Starbucks but I'd never buy a straw from that company. Dunkin' Donuts is the best I've had.

Try a French press or a clever dripper. I like my clever dripper and it's cheap.

I have a bonavita electric kettle but lots of stuff will work.

Those little stovetop espresso machines do well w Cuban coffee

Coffee, yes. Donuts, no. Their donuts taste like old cardboard with stale frosting from the 50's. But yeah, the coffee's not bad

Douwe Egberts. Next time you're in CS, Fuegos serves it as their house coffee. Belgian brew. Not necessarily a coffee guru, but this stuff tastes great.

I drink roughly 100oz of coffee every day. This is not an exaggeration.

I'll take it anyway I can get it - but my 3 preferred cups are:

1. Illy medium roast.
2. Starbucks blonde roast.
3. Lavazza medium roast.

I generally don't drink coffee prior to 8:30 - always hydrate first and never touch it until you're "all clear", IYKWIM.

Everyone has their thing. Don't mean nobody's a titty baby. I like 25 yo single malts. I also drink Lonestar on occasion.

For ****'s sake dude go pop a brute and post pics already. At least run an arrow thru your AC unit or something.

YOUR HVAC UNIT, I don't mean AC's junk.

This is an interesting discussion. For every generation of men, it's "okay" to be sophisticated about some things and effeminate to be sophisticated about other things. Coffee, of all things, seems to be a generational okay/not okay.

I can understand the nuance between preference and snobbery. Snobbery is something we all, in any field, reject. Sean is making a straw man and converting ALL preference into snobbery, which is the bear trap that usually consumes these sorts of arguments.

Teddy Roosevelt drank coffee pretty much all day long (as I do). And he went to Harvard. And did a lot of cool outdoorsy things. I doubt he ever derived or thought about his manhood in connection with his coffee consumption.

Funny thing about a French press, I find it much easier to use while camping (Not to mention much better coffee) than the standard percolator. I think the guys who look down their noses at it would have an entirely different opinion of the device if it had a different name.

If Yeti made one and called it the "Incinerator" they'd have every coffee drinking country boy (or wannabe) lined up to get one. Except those waiting for the Rtic version.

I think you are right as well. I generally just use Folgers singles in boiling water when camping because I only make 1,maybe 2 cups at the most. But if I were making coffee for multiple people then I agree that the French press is a better way to go than a percolator. The Jetboil versions look pretty handy overall.

KY Ag, that's an interesting point.

WWII generation tended to be vastly more particular about their clothes, but not too concerned about their cars. (At least, none of the ones I knew were.)

Aside from tech, I'm not sure what millenials care about. Boomers seemed to be more vain about their shape than the WWII types, but the WWII types had a pretty strong stigma against fat men. More than unhealthy/unattractive. Seemed to be something they almost considered immoral but not very concerned with being able to run/strength etc.

All purely my own experiences of course

For everyday - HEB Texas Pecan evenly mixed with HEB Arabica House Blend.

There are several HEB Texas Pecan mentions on this thread. Give this a try. You wont be sorry.

On the go - McDonalds. Fresh, hot, good, way less $ than starbucks.

Starbucks is just terrible tasting coffee. Horrible aftertaste. It's one of the main reasons I know our society is screwed. The vast number of people willing to pay inflated prices for terrible coffee. ...at least the coffee nerds on this thread pay a ton for good coffee.

When I was a boy, my Grandfather told me to sack up and never put cream/sugar/milk in my coffee. Been drinking it black ever since. I love it. Kona would probably one of my favorites to answer OP's question.

Douwe Egberts is awesome, especially if it's from the liquid concentrate. It's the house coffee at Crowne Plaza in downtown Houston as well.

Sonic red button roast tastes similar.

we dont even have a starbucks within 2 hours, thank god. Our local coffee shop uses really good beans that are roasted here in Montana (coffee and espresso), I forget the brand but its really good. Also, Farmer Brothers has some really good coffee. Its your quintessential good diner coffee (we actually bought it from a diner). Its really good, and you can buy bags of ground or whole beans online from them.

If your local Starbucks carries the reserve coffee and has a Clover machine, I recommend it. It makes a really good cup of coffee.

Again, generational faux-machismo. My least favorite aunt would often repeat this trope, along the lines of "if you can't drink it black, you ought not drink it at all", to which I would think "if you can't talk without saying something stupid, you ought not talk at all".

If you like a caramel soy-latte, there's nothing wrong with that... but there's not much point in specifying the coffee at that point.

Kinda like buying good bourbon and pouring it in coke.

That's another argument completely AC, and a subjective rabbit hole at that.

I will only say I'm more than happy to specify Woodford Reserve or Knob Creek when the govna makes me an Old Fashioned. But I assume you take any old liquor since it doesn't matter, amirite?
Apache

Your least favorite aunt was right!

I challenge you to take your coffee black for a week & then try it with cream & sugar again. Once you are used to real coffee flavor, you won't want the other junk in there messing it up.
It's similar to mixing good whisky and coke after you've acclimated to having it neat or on the rocks.
Be a man.

Removing cream & extra sugar from your life isn't a bad thing either.
