I'm hoping I haven't missed the answer to this question In the thread. Where can you find information about the bison draw?

Alaska does hunting draws every year like every other western state. Their website is the best source for info. Draws are highly competitive. I was very lucky to draw. I think it was less than 1% chance.

I'm in the military so have to stay in shape as part of my job. I run regularly (a few times a week) and mix in some weights. I ate a bit healthier to lean out a bit and added a few more leg and back exercises but didn't go crazy as I didn't want to over do it. Being healthy without any sprains or strains was as important to me as being physically fit. I wasnt at 15000 feet where I couldn't breathe so, I figured if I took my time and just kept pushing through I could get it done eventually.

Part 2 was even better. The fact that you did all this solo is the most amazing part to me. I only did a day-night-day solo this year and can't say I enjoyed it.

Also, did the biologist have any good pointers on billy/nanny ID? The only one I've ever heard is "wait to watch it pee".

Pretty tough to judge from a distance. The biologists gave me a few tips. The males are typically larger, in small groups or alone (obviously no kids nearby). Their horns are closer at the base, they stand more upright, and typically have a bit more mass. All not easy to see in the field, especially at a distance Obviously seeing balls is a giveaway, but when the fur gets thick that isn't easy.

Best thing is to just observe as many as you can. When I saw the billy, it stood out as a male to me (primarily due to size), after seeing a bunch of nannies.
