We have family in Fort Worth and Austin and want to purchase a lake house somewhere in between the two areas. In all honesty we are new to the lake house thing and would appreciate some advice. Thanks & Gig'em!
quote:You definitely should consider Whitney. We had a lake place there for about 25 yrs., kept our boat in one of the marinas, and really enjoyed our family time there.
We were thinking of Whitney
quote:Lake Waco is in the middle. Whitney is going to be closer to FW but not too far from Waco. People I know at Whitney go into Waco to go to places like Home Depot, so it isn't that big a deal. I'd say, depending on where in both FW and Austin, 45 minutes from FW, 2 hours from Austin.
something in the middle
quote:I would recommend the area from the dam north to the Cedron Creek area. This is a very large area and there is a lot of deep, open water from the dam area North to Cedron Creek. This area is also the most accessible to the Hillsboro and Waco areas.
Any particular part of Whitney you would recommend? We don't currently have a boat. We're newbies to the lake house thing
quote:Whitney is not a constant level lake. Are there any constant level lakes in Texas?
Is Whitney constant level? There is a lot of value in a constant level lake. Ask the people on Buchanan and Travis.

quote:My place is on Limestone and I love that lake, quiet most of the time and awesome fireworks on the 4th for the kids is a plus. I have never been skunked fishing and for catfish it is a winner.
Limestone is about the only other lake not mentioned here that could even possibly be considered in between the two cities. It's a nice fishing and boating lake. The further east you go, the more rain you can expect on average as well which can be a consideration with TX droughts. Limestone is also likely cheaper and less crowded on average.
Whitney seems like the obvious choice, but Limestone would probably be my runner up based on your criteria. As stated above Cedar Creek and RC are good fishing lakes but those are pretty much in the Dallas area, imo.
Good luck
