I don't know that I'd go that small on a reel, because you may have a hard time slowing or turning an upper slot red due to lower drag and line capacity. Personally, I wouldn't go any smaller than a 2000 or 2500 series. I have a Sahara 2500 on a St Croix Mojo 7' ML rod, and it's a blast to catch fish on.

I make the rods out of 7 weight fly rod blanks....9'to 9' 6"

What's the difference between the Crazy Alberto and the Albright? They look the same to me.

Alberto starts by entering the loop and spiral wrapping up and then back and going thru the loop in the same direction.

Albright goes thru the loop and you lay along the line and butt wrap back toward the loop and exiting the loop on the opposite side.

Very different.

Crazy Alberto is sometimes called modified or improved Albright.

I'm enjoying this conversation and learning some things.

I've always used the palomar knot as I've always heard it was the strongest when tying a lure. I can tie it quickly and it seems like it would be stronger since two loops of line are used to attach the hook/lure instead of one.

Is there another one I should be using? Particularly when changing lures on a mono leader?

So it is. I took a closer look at the diagram. Earlier I just glanced at it and saw the loop with the wraps and back out the loop.

Palomar is a good knot, easy to tie. It's difficult with large lures and it wastes a lot of line. I don't know how strong it is but it's worked well for me.

The strongest knot is the Bimini twist.

I tie the Palomar when I'm using braid. Easy to remember.

Use improved cinch for mono and a loop knot for topwaters on mono
