Probably discussed in previous threads but looking for opinions as to proper height for protein feeder spouts. Thinking 38-40"?

I have mine anywhere from 35-38" you should be good. I just have issues with coons hanging from mine

Agree with Papa and ttha. About 36" should do it. I've got game cam pics of hogs patrolling the area around ours looking for scraps on the ground, so hopefully they realized the spouts are too high.

36" is the minimum/lowest. I had this one at 40" initially installed but the legs have sank some

The hogs will stand on their back legs to reach the tubes. We have numerous pics of them doing it. We ended up fencing our protein feeders too.

X1000. Hog panels for the win!

They will also break off the spout or plate by standing/bouncing on it. We have feral goats that love breaking protein feeders, too.

Thanks for the responses. I do have panels around the feeder. I had ~ 25 horse panels we removed for new fence. To stretch the footage out I halved these 4 X 15' to make 2 X 15 feet but now that I've done that I think they're too short. Big hog can probably jump over it.

Take the horse panels and just cut out 2-3' length sections at about 18" from the top, at 4-6 places around the pen. That should equal a hog panel.

In other words, frame with standard horse panels, and just cut out a few spots that are slightly lower for easier access.

I must warn you, a big ole pig can fit it's snout under that first wire and do some damage. Double tie all your tee posts or buy hog panels.

Now y'all have slandered a minority and TWU in the same thread....

If you want to get your larger bucks to consume more feed then 40" is where I'd put your spout pan height. Your feeder will more than likely settle some over the course of the season, but it should still be higher than 38" after it settles.
