I am getting close to the point of declaring war. They have damned up one of my 4 foot culverts three times over the past month. I don't want to kill them if there are other options that I am missing, so I'm open to ideas.

Read Ball Four by Jim Bouton. Lots of discussion on shooting beaver in that book.

I know my folks neighborhood had a trapper come out and remove a den of beaver from their lake. Not sure what it takes for an individual to take care of the problem.
I'd suppose the SSS rules would most likely apply. I do know that if you remove them as a nuisance without a trappers permit you CANNOT retain the pelts.

Landowners or their agents may take nuisance fur-bearing animals in any number by any means at any time on that person's land without the need for a hunting or trapping license. However, fur-bearing animals or their pelts taken for these purposes may not be retained or possessed by anyone at any time except licensed trappers during the lawful open season and possession periods.

Nuisance fur-bearing animals may be captured and relocated if the person has received authorization from the department and the owner of the property where the release will occur. A monthly report is required and must be submitted to the department on number and kind of fur-bearers captured, location of release site, name and address of person authorized to release.

Nope. Over the years I've also had the pleas...I mean I have also encountered them with blonde and red pelts too.

My experience is that once you start hunting beavers, it rarely stops there. Often times the Beavers are found in prime cougar hunting territory. Then from there it's just a matter of preference: whitetail, blacktail, and exotics, which word on the street is that they taste better than the first two. Sometimes the lull between seasons causes you to go after some hogs, while many find this to be some of the best hunting they've done, most usually try to focus their efforts on the aforementioned species.

    Hope this helps

From what I understand, to keep hides off of predators, you are supposed to have a trappers license.

Poaching can get expensive too. Be careful which beaver you shoot. Permission from all involved parties can even lead to trouble. Then come the attorneys.

When we had an otter in our pond the GW said that we had a choice to make the guy who stocks our fish wealthy, shoot it as a nuisance and then burry it, get a hunting license and shoot it to keep meat/pelt for ourselves, get a trapping license to kill it and sell the pelt, or relocate it. Relocating meant that we had to get a letter from the landowner giving us permission to release it, and then we would have to submit a monthly report to the state from that point until forever. In other words, the choice was to buy fish and more fish, shoot it or shoot it or shoot it or way too much hassle. It seems like the state's preferred method of dealing with nuisance fur bearing animals is to shoot it. Lucky, for the otter, it was just passing through and has never come back.

Not sure if serious or not, but civet cats are not cats. They are a type of spotted skunk a little smaller than a squirrel that make skunks smell good. I killed one for the pelt when I was young and never will again.

Be careful about paying to shoot a beaver. It's illegal in Texas and you might get arrested by an undercover cop.
