I don't drink a lot of hard liquor but when I do whisky or bourbon is my cup of tea.

I am usually a Wild Turkey guy bit lately have started drinking the small batch stuff.
I am drinking Willett Pot Still Reserve and is damn smooth.

I have tried but can't do the Texas whisky. I will spend money for a good liquor because it takes me 8 months to drink 1 bottle.

Any outdoor favorites here?

Noah's Mill, Breckenridge, TX, Weller Special Reserve (amazing when aged in a deep south barrel), Angel's Envy Rye. For the love of all that is holy don't get Woodford or Garrison, they taste like you are licking an old wooden dresser drawer, terrible....

If you like Willett and want to venture into scotch, try balvenie double wood. It's scotch for bourbon fans.

Blantons is tasty as well.

Woodford is delicious.

Husband just bought a bottle of Knob Creek Rye & it is good.

Eagle Rare, Basil Hayden delicious.

Brother really likes Bulleit but it's just ok for me.

Eagle Rare 10, Basil Hayden's, and Blanton's are always stocked at my house, depending on my mood. Always have another bottle of new stuff to try. I've really liked four roses single barrel and bookers as well.

If someone wants to mix a drink, we have buffalo trace or makers on hand too.

Basil Hayden, Bulliet 10, Belle Mead, Willet Pot Still and Rowan's Creek are my favorites. The first two are easy to find; the other three may only come in quarterly to a Specs.

Bullit is great for cocktails, but my favorites served neat are Basil Hayden's and Blanton's.

At the end of the day, start buying and trying things a shelf above what you're used to. My opinion may not be worth squat to your tastebuds. Oh and don't forget to have fun with the process!!

This is why I quit reading that thread.

I live in Kentucky. I can find just about any good bourbon at a local store, but I quit following that thread after some of the ridiculous stuff they said.

BTW, if there are ever any rare in Texas bourbons you guys want me to look for up here, I'm happy to take a look when I go to the Liquor Barn or something. I can let you know the prices and what-not.

Heck. Next time I go, I'll just take a panorama of the huge bourbon aisle and yall can see it for yourself.

My newest bottle is White Lightning from the George Jones museum in Nashville, it is smooth and very easy to drink, zero burn factor.

I prefer wheaters though I love all bourbon.
A bottle caught my eye today and I gave it a whirl. Bernheim Wheat Whiskey out of Heaven Hill. Holy smokes I was blown away. Great sweetness and aroma that you get with wheaters but easily the smoothest whiskey I've ever had. I mean this stuff could be dangerous!! No, it's not a bourbon as the mash bill starts with 51% winter wheat, but it is a HELL of a whiskey and one I'm gonna enjoy having in the rotation. The price is right too.

The scotch I can't seem to live without is Balvenie Doublewood. I have a bunch of peaty islays, but the Balvenie Doublewood is still my favorite drinker.

I'll just copy my response from the last whiskey thread on here

-------------
Four Roses Single Barrel
Elijah Craig 12
Booker's
Basil Hayden's
Rittenhouse Rye is my go to for cocktails. One of the better values in whiskey IMO.
Buffalo Trace for mixing or cocktails that don't go well with high rye content.

Four Roses Yellow Label is underrated IMO and really cheap. I've been thinking about getting an aging barrel and this will be the first thing to go in it.

I stay away from any blends, which is most stuff made Texas. Haven't had Balcones yet. Yellow Rose in Houston has some stuff that isn't blended. I think it's their rye? Toured their place, pretty neat.

I also tend to avoid sourced whiskeys like Bulleit, Noahs Mill, etc. Both are fine whiskeys and decently priced, but I get annoyed with marketing shell games. Too much other good stuff out there.
----------

Knob Creek is another one that I overlook a lot. It was my first foray in to "expensive" bourbon and it was all I drank for a while. Sometimes that's the only decent whiskey a bar has and I'll order it. I always end up thinking I should get it more often.

Scotch-

I've yet to have a Balvenie that wasn't good. I got the 17 yr Peated Cask as a gift and it's the best I've had. And I don't even like a ton of peat. Might look at the smokier stuff in the future. My only real taste of heavy peat was Laphroiag and that stuff tastes like rotten meat to me. I have some of Glen Turret that I bottled at the distillery. I'm waiting for A&M to win a natty before I open it. So hopefully it's all gone before my great grandkids get it.

I'm not sure the Irish are the best at making whiskey though.

You guys drinking Willett Pot Still Reserve - where are you finding it?

I'm in Houston and BCS, Spec's says the carry it but never seem to have it in stock. They always have Willett Rye, but never the bourbon.

I typically age Weller around 2.5-3 weeks.

I can't believe I forgot to mention Bernheim in my first post. It has been one of my go to whiskeys for years, I always have a bottle on the shelf.
