Rethinking my EDC. What do you carry?

So I'm crazy and carry a Sig 228 (better than a 226, right). I own a shield, I'm just kinda meh about it. I just love a full size gun. These subcompacts are appealing, I just a having a hard time getting into them.

I don't think it's a capacity thing. It's more the love of the gun on my side. I just love bigger all-metal guns.

What do you guys/girls carry that I could consider to drop size and weight, and gain comfort? Maybe I should just own it, and open carry. (Not really going to happen.)

Also how do you carry it?

For me I'd like to keep it south of $1200, so no ridiculous custom 1911. But show em off anyways.

If nothing else, this should be a fun thread that I haven't seen on here before. If it's happened it has been a while...

I carried a Shield for 3 years - but I decided I wanted something a LITTLE bit bigger, and something that holds more than 7+1 rounds.

I now carry an HK P2000 with factory night sights. I also much prefer DA/SA to triggers like the Shield had...

I also sometimes pocket carry my P2000sk in my cargo pants pocket.

I have an M11A1, which is basically a 228, as well - but I like to carry the HK more. With the Hogue Jr grip on it (I hate the fullsize Hogue handall) the grip is just perfect on the HK

Nice!

Actually I carry the FDE m11-a1, but most don't know what that is, so I just said 228.

I too prefer DA/SA, especially for carry, over the striker fired guns.

I'll check the HK out...thanks!

I'm in the same boat... But carry a 226. Been looking at and researching the p239 and p224 for a while. Both all metal, same controls, just in a smaller package.

You might want to give them a look!

I had a 224 - I sold it after trying to carry it 2x. It's like a Glock 26 sized gun, but weighs almost as damn much as a fullsize Beretta 92FS. Just too heavy for what it is. I would not recommend it. I'd rather have a 229/M11A1, personally.

Yes, HK lowered the price on the P2000s (and the P2000sk) You can usually get one for around $620 or so new. I paid $707, but mine came with factory night sights and 3 mags

If you like carrying a full size gun then I'd just make sure you have the right holster/belt combination and dress around it. I carry a Glock 17 in a Crossbreed Supertuck with a Wilderness belt. Works great for me and I get to carry a full size gun that not only holds more ammo but also fits my hands better.

XDs in 45acp, typically in a WhiteHat IWB. Wasn't pleased with how it (or I) grouped most 230gr HP's...a stout 185gr load prints much better. 6-round mid-size mag, or the 5 round mag w/Pearce extension.

Right now I carry either a Glock 19 or a 26 in a Comp tac MTAC IWB holster. However, I did by a Springfield Loaded Champion 1911. It's at the Springfield Custom shop right now getting bob tailed and an upgraded set of night sights, but when it gets back I plan to work it into the carry rotation, most likely in a Garrett Industries Silent Thunder STX 2 OWB.

Lots of XD love on this board. Surprises me actually...

I'll have to look into them more than I have before. Always been more of a M&P guy.

Along the lines of the P2000SK... look at the P30SK... I have a couple in stock and kept one for my own use. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM!

I've held the P30k a few times - but to me, the backstrap isn't as comfortable. It's cut to a different angle. I actually like the P2000sk more. But, the P30k is popular

I'm also really thinking about picking up a Steyr M9. I had one in .40 and loved it, but I had a hard time finding holsters for it and ditched it when I switched over to 9mm. I miss it. Best sights I ever found for quick acquisition.

You know there are three different backstraps for the P30SK, right?

XDs 9mm in Alien Gear IWB, but I've been thinking about selling it and buying the Shield. I've never shot the Shield...need to rent it from my LGS, but I love the feel of the grip. When I bought my XDs, I couldn't find a Shield to try out. I rented a Sig P238 this weekend (date night with the Mrs.). I really like the way it feels, and would consider the P938...but that price, though.

For the most part, a Sig P239 in a Crossbreed Supertuck. But I like 1911s, and have carried them on occasion. I recently got a Wilson Combat and really like it. Got Tucker Gunleather holsters for it, both IWB and OWB. The OWB is great, not sure about the IWB. It's well made, but not as comfortable as the Crossbreed, and harder to reholster. Anyway, I see myself moving more toward the 1911 for carry.

If anyone is considering a Crossbreed, I recommend getting horsehide and getting the combat cut. The combat cut allows you to get your thumb down on the grip for a much better draw.

Depends on where I'm going, what I'm doing, and what I'm wearing. If it's to the gym or down the street to the gas station, I usually just pocket carry a Kahr CW380 in an Uncle Mike's clip-on holster. General carry is the Kahr CW9. If it's cold and I'm wearing enough clothing to hide a double-stack I carry a Glock 27 that's converted to 9mm with a Lone Wolf barrel. It's been tricked - out with a sniper gray Ceracote slide, grip reduction/stipple job, T.R. Graham trigger, TruGlo TFO's, and a +2 mag. It gets carried in a Blackhawk SERPA OWB paddle holster.

That's a pocket holster, correct? I was just debating tonight if I could pocket carry an XDs

Yes, I realize there are different back straps for the P30sk. But the one that comes on the gun as more of a curved hump on the back than the P2000sk does. That was one of the things I do not like about the P99 as well. The backstrap has a huge hump on it.

As for changing it, that is usually not something allowed until after you buy the gun.

OP did ask for pics....most of yall are failing.

Old EDC: Glock 19 in leather OWB holster. Comfortable, and it's a gun I've used in competition and am very comfortable with. Light, high capacity. Really, really hard to beat a G19.

My "can't carry anything else" gun: Ruger LCP in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. Beats harsh words and a stick.

Now, my latest and favorite and what I think OP should heavily consider if he's looking for an all metal, DA/SA gun like his Sig but a little lighter and easier to carry: My CZ P-01 in a Bladetech IWB holster.

And a naked pic:

My P-01 is not stock. It has Cajun Gun Works parts and VZ grips on it and it is still well under OPs $1200 budget. It is also smaller in every category than his currently carried Sig. I checked the specs of the two guns, and the CZ is 75% of the weight of the Sig, thinner, shorter, etc. If you want smaller, lighter, all metal, same operation as your current gun, I think a P01 would be a fantastic option for you, OP. I'm loving mine so much it's slowly replacing the G19 that I've used for both concealed carry and competition for a long time.

Heck, if you're near the Temple area you can even try mine out before you buy to see if you'd like it.

I'll check out this CZ. Thanks!

Actually I bought a Glock 26 today. Why? Because I've never owned a glock before, always thought I hated them (because I like to be different), and because I'm a sucker for FDE...

It probably won't enter into the EDC role too often, but it's only slightly larger than the sheild with a lot more capacity.

I'm still in the market for another pistol. I'll check out the CZ and the HK offerings. Any othe recommendations?
