Damn, there it is again, right there on Wikipedia....

Holstein-Friesian is a black and white dairy cow, referred to as "Friesians" in Europe and as "Holstein" in North America.

I think it's on the black hereford webpage, but to to register a black hereford you have to breed a registered angus to a registered hereford. The resulting calf if bred to a registered black hereford, that offspring can be registered as a black hereford. Pretty confusing and there aren't many black hereford breeders to get bulls from.

Can get Black Hereford from Kris Black all day long. I've bought heifers and even show steers from him. He sells alot of Bulls

If you are trying to make money in a small operation and want black cows why would you go out and pay a premium for black Herefords? Some black Brangus cattle would get you into them cheaper, get some great big boned good momma cows and have cattle with an established mainstream market.

Now if you wanna be a breeder it's great, but for the OP I wouldn't say it's the best direction.

Kramp90 - we are thinking about adding to our herd next year with a couple heifers or buy 2 cow/calf pairs. let me know if you have any to sell in the future.

We have a place in schulenburg. Between our land and leased land right next door with have 60 acres. Right now we have a bull with 6 cows and calves when they are on the ground. We could add a few and still not have to feed a lot of hay during winter.

Just another little tidbit when choosing your breed, especially your bull, if you might be considering whiteface, choose one with the dark pigment around the eyes.
Appreciate that. I am new to the biz and recently purchased a herd of Santa Gertrudis mommas. I am planning to put a Hereford bull on them and will be looking at some later this week. I'll keep my eye out for the dark pigment around the eyes.
