Any recommendations on ear muffs for youths?

Looking at taking my biggest little one (3 1/2) for some quality dove time this year.

I think the electronic type where he can hear conversation and instructions is the best.

They don't have youth specific models. Is "one size fits most" just a qualifier for a head that may be too big?

Eyeguy, what are you carrying in the store?

I suggest going to a large store like a Gander Mountain or Bass Pro Shop and trying some on. When I had to purchase hearing protection for my boys there was not a standard size, Some ran real large. I actually wear a youth earmuff when running the weedeater, chainsaw etc. I didnt know it was a youth model until recently.

At the same time they look like they are all made by the same 2 or 3 companies with a different color/label.

I also wear (my kids too) double hearing protection. Get the soft foam ear plugs. They are more comfortable and easier to roll real small for your little ones ears. My kids wear the cheap Caldwell electronic muff in addition to the foam ear plugs. My boys are bigger so I am not sure how the size compares. They have lasted over 2 years exceeding my expectations for $20 electronic muffs. I would recommend an electronic set. If your 3 year old cant understand your communication they will definitely start taking off the hearing protection.

3 is a tough age. Again, try on different ones. Do not worry about how much noise reduction they offer if you will use dual hearing protection. It will be more than enough. I would also practice wearing hearing protection at the house. 3 year old always want to pull off their hearing protection

You can .always make the jump to running suppressed and run the soft foam plugs only. That will have to be next season as the govt makes us all wait.

I dont have any kiddo sized in inventory though ill fix that on my next order. Id go with some cheaper smaller muffs for now and then get some impact sports (or whatever is the equivalent in 8 or 9 years)

I'm not sure I would be expecting much quality dove time with a 3.5 yr old. Probably best to think of it as some quality daddy time with the slight possibility of a dove being involved at some point.

Ha.

I'm not expecting much by way of dove. My wife asked if I was going to take him Labor Day weekend and I just laughed at her.

I second this recommendation.

Double up. Plugs+muffs.
