Going fly fishing this week in New Mexico. I know some states have banned felt soles, but I can't find anything saying their use is legal/illegal in New Mexico.

If legal, this will be the first time I use felt bottoms, otherwise I'll switch them out for the rubber soles.

Also, what can be done to the soles between use so that they don't spread invasive species? Or is the consensus to not use them at all?

Apparently not since I can't find an official release on whether they're legal or not, but thanks.

They are considering the ban but to my knowledge haven't enacted any restrictions (researching a trip now to NM)

Take a look at stream tread soles (Simms has several options) - they are rated superior to flet sole (FYI I've never used felt soles myself)

Nothing is posted saying they aren't on the banned list there so you are good to go.

The lack of official information on this leads me to believe they're legal, but I don't want to assume and be wrong. Guess I will give the NMDGF a call to confirm.

Good luck on your trip. Where will you be fishing?

Thanks. We'll be in the Taos Ski Valey and surrounding areas.
