No one is enforcing it now. Guns are on campus now.

I think Giddings is invisioning Blutarsky, Otter, and Flounder running around firing guns in the air.

Whoop!

I am glad it passed. I know many were already carrying at A&M and now it will be legal!

I had a feeling it would pass, the extremes some of the arguments were being taken to made me feel like they were just pandering to their base.

So now what? Gotta pass the house too? go to conference committees a dozen times like open carry did? What's the next step?

It'll be interesting to see how the new President works through this.

I can only think of a few areas on campus that could be marked off limits due to "special circumstances". I'm going to laugh as facilities has to scrape the 30.06 signs off of the buildings that already have them.

It goes to the Governor. It's done.

Today the House was voting on the conference committee report. Yesterday, the Senate voted and passed the conference committee version of the bill.

Yep. Open carry and Campus carry in one session.

They dragged it down until the very last day, but it got done.

Good session.

Best gun session we've had in a long time.

*Campus Carry
*Open Carry
*Reduction of 30.06 violation to Class C
*New 30.06 language that will make all existing 30.06 signs invalid on 1/1/16
*Decriminalization of NFA
*Added civil fines to governmental entities that illegally post 30.06 signs

Don't forget knife preemption passed too. San Antonio can no longer make it illegal to carry a lock blade knife.

Great session.

Thanks to all who called and wrote. If you're not a member of TSRA, please fix that after this hell of a good session they gave us.

Gotta agree. Great session for the expansion of gun owners' rights.

Absolutely! Anyone know if CC goes into effect on the Gov's signature or is it Jan 1 2016 as well?

Sanmexico had a law making almost all the pocket knives I own illegal?
I did not know that.

From the email my rep just sent me:

quote:

Open Carry (HB 910) and Campus Carry (SB 11) have both officially passed the House and Senate chambers with time to spare. They are now on their way to be signed by Governor Abbott. Once signed into law, Open Carry (HB 910) will go into effect January 1, 2016. Campus Carry (SB 11) will take effect September 1, 2015 for 4-year institutions of higher education, and August 1, 2017 for Community Colleges.

I don't believe that's correct. SB11 takes effect on 8/1/2016 for all schools except community colleges. The original date was 9/1/15, but the conference committee changed that.

I haven't read the entire bill and only followed this thread and other news sites. Just passing on what Doc Andersons office is saying. His office could have old info or forgot to update it.

Either way, I'm glad my angry email to them Friday has them keeping me up to date now.

All the "crying" moms on twitter with their "hysterics" really make me laugh. Same for the "faculty" who are threatening to leave the state or calling for "bullet proof" vests before they head back to the classroom.

The general populous are morons. KHOU's Facebook page is littered with comments about drunken gun fights and blood running through campus and freshman open carrying. It's obvious that none of them have actually read the bills or analysis of either.

Rep Turner is so full of helpful info for his constituents!

I'll refrain from saying more.

Sometimes this session when I was watching the Legislature I kept thinking to myself "Who votes for these absolutely incompetent stupid ********?"

Then I read news comments sections and get reminded exactly who votes for them.

Dem's on the Obama tit. You didn't see any middle/upper class Rep's whine about their kids scared to attend college.

Unfortunately, you see plenty of middle/upper class Dems who are whining. Most of MDA is middle/upper class whites.

It appears to be based on which buildings you work in, so HSC clinic /hospital employees would not be able to carry.

In sure Employee Asssistance, UPD, quack shack would also be exclusions.

I thought employers can't prohibit their workers without a 30.06 sign?

I thought they could based on company policy even if they let visitors, customers, etc carry with no 30.06 sign.

That's not accurate. Employers can prohibit their workers with internal policy decisions. This internal policy does not apply to guests, customers, etc of the business unless a 30.06 sign is posted or the person receives verbal notice to vacate.

Campus carry will be a bit different since you could have certain rooms in certain buildings off limits. It's going to be a mess to try and keep straight for schools who intent to severely limit the right to carry.
