so I know I don't really want to spend much time in/around Falcon lake, but how have things been on Amistad?

As I recall it Falcon is kinda murky vs Amistad was beautifully clear. It's been since I was a kid though. How are things these days?

I don't really want to lose my head to the cartel. But I want to enjoy the greatness that God provided us with in this state.

Will I come home to my family???

Fished out there for years, even when the border violence was really bad I never had any issues. I did always carry, but had 0 issues except for some evenings across the border.

I own a house boat out on Lake Amistad, and go out there several times a year. We have never had any issues with safety, and I've always felt very safe on that lake. There have been no incidents that i am aware of. It's a heck of a long drive, but it is my favorite lake in Texas.

I've grown up on Amistad, it's extremely safe. And in my opinion one of the clearest lakes in Texas. I fished the Mexico side last weekend, fishing isn't as good as it used to be. But you can still catch a mess of em just harder to catch size than it used to be.

I grew up on falcon and grew up fishing both. That was a damn good childhood.

I'm from the area. Del Rio/Amistad is pretty safe. We generally stay away from the dam side of the reservoir though.

Native Del Rioan here,

You will be completely fine going to Amistad, even fishing the Mexican side of the lake will be fine so long as you get a Mexican fishing license.

I'll be kayaking the Devil's from Baker's to Rough Canyon this wknd, have fun out there, I know I'm going to.

Sounds like you have been pretty mis-informed about falcon.

Unless you're just being sarcastic.

It's been years since I fished at Amistad.

It was safe then, for me and the fish.

I didn't catch a **** thing.

Love Amistad-we go every year for Memorial Day weekend and have never had a problem. I have no qualms about taking my kiddos- 3 yo and this year a newborn as well if that tells you anything about safety. My husband fishes Falcon as well- but no way in hell me or kiddos go down there .

From the reports I get from from my friends you don't want to stray to much west, there is a boundary line, but you have to be cautious of boats around you while fishing and to me that takes the fun out of it. On the other hand I have heard of no problems since the the incident a few years back. Amistad was my diving lake and did nothing else there, would have liked to fish it though.

Sorry for not coming back sooner, but right now we don't rent it out. I jointly own the boat with my best friend and through the summer he is on it just about every weekend so renting during the warm months is pretty much impossible. I guess we could consider renting it during the winter, but we'd be pretty picky about who we rented to and wouldn't want the boat moved off it's mooring buoy. We keep it moored out in the cove at Rough Canyon, so you need a boat to carry all of your food & gear to the houseboat. It would be a great floating hotel room for a winter fishing weekend, and that is something we might consider.

Been fishing out there for decades, no problems except for stray thunderstorms and some brutal winds. Most of the time, get the fish to cooperate accordingly as well.

Fished Amstad a lot and never have had any problems. Stating the obvious here, but just don't go into the Mexico side(at least I wouldn't--plenty of fish on the US side) and you should have nothing to worry about. I will say that lake can get mighty rough if you have some bad weather come in.

We are on Amistad nearly every weekend during the summer. We put a rv up at Rough Canyon. No problems, except when we stay on the porch too long at Hookers or the Point.
