What happened to all of the named storms that were predicted? It was supposed to be an above average year.

Hurricane season really doesn't ramp up until mid-August.

That said, I'd love for a nice tropical depression to move slowly over central Texas. .01" of rain in July makes June's .32" look good.

Seems like they say that every year. I've gotten to where I take weather forecasts with a grain of salt. The majority of the rain we've gotten, in my area, the last 2 years has been on days that started with basically no chance of rain forecasted.

Right on track, climatologically.

July is often slim to none
Same for early Aug
Late aug to Sept is when things traditionally heat up.

We are just so dry and hot that is seems the tropics is the only thing that can break the spell.

Hottest May on record
Hottest June
Hottest July

August, you're up

With that kind of year predicted, I expected more tropical waves and disturbances by now. With La Niña not letting up, that seems like the only chance we have. I haven't sold anything from my little bunch of cows yet. I have enough hay to gamble for a little longer.

Last I saw, La Niña is predicted to last through the rest of the year.

Yeah, not looking good... maybe we'll avoid the annual dove hunting rains/floods that push them out but I am not sure how good the dove crop is looking this year. Duck hunting should be good if you have water. Deer hunting is going to be tough...

Luckily we have had a lot of Sahara dust and high level shears to keep major tropical disturbances at bay. Have had some rain along the coast and east Texas the last couple of weeks, decent chances today and tomorrow and I think they go way down on Wednesday.

The good news is that we have been able to get a huge amount of progress done on drainage projects and maintenance at the lease. The bad news is that the owner has only had 1 hay cutting this year and the fuggin cows have made their way into 3 separate pens and gone through a crap ton of deer protein, but that is to be expected.

Deer are still hammering the protein at our place, hope the trend keeps up through bow season and our early rut in September/early October.

I'm fully expecting a turd floater to hit right around September 15th-25th or so and dump all of the overdue rain at once. It's practically tradition for that to happen right before bow season starts so that we get to play in the mud and fight pterodactyl sized mosquitoes in heat and humidity.

Yeah that is always a possibility. Hoping that doesnt happen right before teal season and scatter the birds all over the place

Inside the loop Houston west of 45 has been a dry island. East was disgustingly green when I drove out east yesterday. I redid my front landscaping this spring. At this point I'm just praying I can keep the shrubs I planted this spring alive until the fall.

That looks like the lightning that hit right behind my house yesterday in Katy/Fulshear! Nasty storms and decent amount of rain last night.

It also looks like some rain is in the forecast out in Concan, which would be miraculous if we accumulated an 1" or more.

All around us, not a drop here. The clouds blow up over us, then drift off and rain somewhere else over and over..

GOOF at Ella and 43rd.

Not an official rain gauge close enough to be sure, but guessing 1.5" to 1.75" last night. First measurable rain in months.

Every afternoon we've watched the clouds form east and west of us, thunder, and then nothing so it was almost shocking to get rain.

In Junction yesterday the good cloud split just north of town so went around. Total 0.0. Today nice, dark moisture laden cloud north of town but as it moved south began to dissipate quickly. I don't think my rain guage can measure that small of an amount so will guess .02, but the coolness was nice. We are now in the highest level of drought---Exceptional, and trees are dying. Probably a good rain up H83N toward Menard County line today.

Yesterday's storm created huge dust storm out on IH10 West (near the grass farms that are now dirt only!) that resulted in 10-15 vehicle, truck pile-up. There were fatalities and the EMT I got word from said 3. My Tx Dot friend said 2 with others critical. Anyway, not good.
