Hoping to get some in Waco, the odds keep decreasing.

We haven't had a drop in 4 weeks.

4.6" so far in Rio Medina the past four days. We need some sunshine, then another rain.

9/29/17 Now it's 5" and looks like its probably over. That was great. The pasture had gone to dust before this.

Rumor is the Nueces will fill Lake Corpus Christi........

Need to get the frio flowing.

The nerves used to flow full time into the bay for salinity balance

It might be flowing based on rainfall in that area the last couple of days.

What B1-83 was referring to is part of the operations requirements for Lake Corpus Christi (Lake Mathis). When the dam was built, the feds required that certain flows be maintained into the bay to balance the salinity. A lot of folks were at the time, and still are, up in arms that water impounded for drinking must be dumped into the bay. The reasoning being that it's a river in South Texas that does throughout the year go dry on its own.

My point is, that historically I don't think that was always the case. Prior to increased demands on groundwater, from the bay all the way to the headwaters in the western hill country, I think the Nueces and the Frio rivers flowed perennially. However as you see more land, especially in the headwaters carved into ranchitos the shallow aquifers are drawn down and the springs dry up. This is made worse by proliferation of non-native plants like ash juniper which are far more water wasting. South of the hill country the Nueces flows through regions with a lot of center-pivot as well.

All of this, I believe, combined to create rivers that were intermittent.

I don't buy it. I suspect it went dry fairly often in that last 80 miles, with large standing pools.

Rule of thumb for Texas rainfall:

Avg rainfall x 2 = highest recorded rainfall

Avg rainfall / 2 = lowest recorded rainfall

True, but it seems the past 5 years I've seen both. Lost a bunch of trees and all forage grass to drought a few years back, now I'm actually losing trees to drowning.
Kinda crazy and I'm just a hobby farmer with nothing more than shade and forage grass on the line.

It's funny because I'm pretty sure the Almanac predicted the opposite

For the Texas/Oklahoma region except the panhandle

ANNUAL WEATHER SUMMARY: NOVEMBER 2017 TO OCTOBER 2018
Winter will be colder than normal, with above-normal precipitation. The coldest periods will be from late November into early December, from late December into early January, and in early February. Snowfall will be near to above normal, with the snowiest periods in late December and early to mid-February. April and May will be cooler and rainier than normal. Summer will be cooler and rainier than normal, with the hottest periods in mid-July and mid-August. Expect a hurricane threat in late August. September and October will be warmer and rainier than normal. Watch for a tropical storm threat in early September.

Of course, '40-60% ' is pretty much a non forecast and a logic failure. Basically that means 50% chance of warmer and drier, 50% colder and wetter. Not much of a forecast.
