I could live 2 days on my fat before I need to raid months of food in the deep freeze.
Worst case scenario I have to run the generator for A/C and other basic necessities I might need gas in a couple weeks.
Who lives day to day?

I call BS on the flooding issue. We have had floods here before. Hell it flash floods with a half an inch of rain here in the Austin Metro. Should we just give a day off every time it rains??

This is the first time a city off the coast of Texas has ever done something like this. This is just asinine and insanity run amuck.

If you have to cross a low water crossing to go somewhere then don't. Common fing sense
True, but there are more Californians than ever living in Austin. Normal residents would maybe have half a clue at best. What are you expecting out of the transplants?

The latest rain estimates are noticibly lower than originally forecast. That week or two of dry weather made things thirsty. It does not seem like we'll get the originally forecast amounts.

Tomorrow yes I agree but to go full retard and tell people to go home at 3 is the sky is falling mentally

Ever occur to you that they thought the storm would be here by 5-6 and they didn't want the entire city stuck in traffic just to squeeze two more pointless hours of work (and by that I mean checking the radar on their phones) out of the minions?

That's funny. I do own my business and can do what I want. With that said, my wife likes to check up on me. She was puzzled when I replied that we had been watching the weather all day. It's better to just to send em home. Me included. We were watching the radar all day long.

Storm is going due north east of Austin metro.

Jim Spence is not even sure we will get much rain. His forcast model had 0.9 inches for Austin.

We will see if Jim Spence or NOAA's prediction of 3 to 5 is correct.

Yes there are Many transplants and I suspect a few have wormed their way into govt positions of lunicy.

Exactly! Those that are in danger have had PLENTY of time with all the hype to prepare. Getting supplies at 3 in the afternoon because your office says go home tells me you are a moron that knows nothing about your surroundings.

Rita hit the same path as Bill and it was a Category 1 storm in Bastrop. All the generators in town were rented and sold out in stores in Austin. That was the first time I mentioned to my wife that mankind was fooked. They did not close the town down for that.

According to a video that was just posted on FB, it looks like they are releasing quite of bit water out of Belton now.

I just drove over it. It looks like they are letting a lot more water out this evening then they were last night.

In all fairness our company deals in oil and gas. We are the support for the field crews that are all over the country needing data processed etc. We knew that nobody was going to do something stupid and the whole company themselves decided on who was to stay and who could leave. Lots of people stayed because if they leave they don't get paid. If they stayed there was no risk of flooding or anything to the office.

As a private firm we can't just say shut down, go home. If it is severe enough we have food and water and coffee and will ride it out at the company instead of risking a person's life on the road 8n bad weather.

Rita made landfall at the Texas-Louisiana border. Thinking of a different storm?

Victoria with ~1.5" of slow rain and ONE max wind gust of 36mph, even with the center of rotation passing within less than 10 miles of town. Talk about a non-event. Old Bill was all hat and no cattle.
Unfortunately, next time a storm Warning comes, people wont heed the warning, remembering this overhyped fiasco.

Not that anybody wants to hear my whining, but this fiasco is going to have a negative impact on the rest of my career. Utter garbage that people can't use their damn heads.

I finally figured out how to get the rain to stop around here... I planted my food plots. We were supposed to get another 3-4" over 7 days. I planted, we are a projected 3" in and I've gotten 0.08" to date. Allegedly another 3/4" in the next week.

The likelihood of turkeys and other assorted birds getting a high percentage of my seed is going up by the day. In related news, it is June 16 and I watched the first soybeans of the year go in today. That is a month late. Should be interesting to see how this goes. Maybe the beans will stay green deep into deer season. Our first frost is usually early October. If we go green until then we could get a nice solid pattern-able early season.

Really long story. Net is I have career defining board exam to take that will now be delayed 3 weeks as they are typically scheduled months out. Seems like more time is good, but not in this case. Basically this is causing 6 weeks of 14-16 hours per day studying to go out the window. When I finally get to take it I'll be well past peak and have been back to a full time work schedule without the opportunity to study for the entire time. Score will drop, doors will close.

I feel for Ya BC. My wife had some board exams pushed around bc of weather. This was a few years back. But if your ready, you'll be ready. Or so I would think. Not in your shoes though. Wishing all the best.

Good things come to those who wait. Keep your spirits up and keep up the hard work as necessary. In the end your mental stamina and outlook will be your biggest ally out your biggest enemy.

Have your pitty party, sure. You deserve that. Then put your big boy pants back on and tackle the adversity head on! Or as my father has told me many times, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going!"

You got this!
