After essentially months of rainfall forecasts that never materialized in actual rain, we picked up 1.8" last night in NE Kansas. That is more than the last 10 weeks combined. Better late than never.

For someone who has to play the weather as much as I do in places that service is sometimes spotty, is this app really worth $10?

Ya. I like it @ $10. It lets you annotate radar loops and stuff so you can send out weather warnings to your buddies -

That's good to see. I guess after all the rain the first half of this year, it didn't take much (comparatively speaking) to get us undry again.

We need about 30 days of no moisture.

The entire wheat planting period for central/north Texas is in jeopardy at this point. Probably will see 50% of our customers acres go into corn unless they mud it in late (which will be abandoned later). Add to it pastures are so saturated it is difficult to even get in to feed let alone do any work (rye grass or late season brush work).

Wheat planting in the Panhandle usually runs from 15 September to 30 October, so I wasn't even thinking about wheat. Most folks got it in and got some good rains in early October, so we're in good shape.

Second week of December is a major deciding point for them. Basically another rain for most of them will push them out of a wheat crop. We should start a fertilizer run in the next couple weeks, seems like that won't happen either.

I could use more corn acres next season

You guys are getting pretty damn selfish with your rainfall, I just gotta say.

It's kind of nice since we were pretty damn selfish with that drought.

A few days ago I glanced at the models showing ~.50 to .75 in. for this storm and got busy doing other things.
Never checked back in on it.
I am just under 5 inches for today and it's still raining.

Almost 6 inches in the last 12 hrs. or so in south College Station. Live in Saddle Creek and have never seen it over the road in the actual neighborhood, today it was over in 4-5 spots!

AP just posted a teaser, expect some more on this tomorrow.

Probably old news but it is new to me. LCRA puts out area rainfall recordings on their site.

So how is all the rain that's hitting California right now going to affect the drought levels they have

Rain contains chemicals known by the state of California to cause cancer, and has been banned.

It will lead them to drain reservoirs due to the average temp going down due to the rain causing the delta smelt to feel uncomfortable.

They're worried about mudslides and flooding. Due to drought and fire, the hillsides are bare. Add a bunch of rain and things will come sliding down.

Here's I-5 near LA in October.

Are we still tracking towards a record El Nino? We are slowly drying out and wondering if we should expect a pickup in rainfall in spring.
I have about an acre that I need to seed and start a garden this spring.

Last I saw was El Nino is breaking early. We are two weeks ahead in planting and the spring looks to be setting in early.
