5 mile dam on the Blanco north of San Marcos is destroyed. Most of the trees are gone. Large chunks of the banks are carved out. It will be not in my lifetime that this place will be back to normal.

This is hydrograph graphs we use on the Brazos to judge floods. You can choose to move up or down stream. Flooding projected for Cuero. Crest forecasted at 37.3 ft on Wednesday afternoon.

Best time to set trot lines is just after a rise when the river is on its way down.

From fox news in Oklahoma:

In northeast Oklahoma, Capt. Jason Farley was helping rescue people at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when he was swept into a drainage ditch. The body of the 20-year veteran was recovered an hour and a half later, Claremore Fire Chief Sean Douglas said.

According to Fox 23, Farley was helping a rescue operation at a home during a girl's 5th birthday party. All of the attendees, which included children and one adult, were rescued through a window.

"He's our hero. That's for sure," the 5-year-old's grandfather Steven Darnell told Fox 23. "It could have been our grandkids or my daughter. I pray for his family and the other firefighters. They're like family to each other."

Good point. When I typed that I was thinking along the lines of the comment talking about sending cops down the streets to alert people.

I know several years ago our county sent out surveys asking for peoples cell phone numbers (completely voluntary) to add them to their database. Dispatchers are also able to access these for contact when issues arise. Cows out, illegal alien bailouts, etc.

Would the outcome have been different if the rental home had a landline installed and in the reverse 911 database? We have no way of knowing. Rentals I'm sure are problematic. So many go on vacation with the specific intent to unplug and might have even turned their phones off.

Thoughts and prayers to all involved.

Agree. Hope I didn't sound insensitive. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected as well.

I've always been hesitant on a reverse 911 calling tree. Too many people to call. I know some counties have an sms system like the A&M code maroon. Even with that, would a quick text be enough of a sound to wake some people?

I'd wait until tomorrow. Weve got a pretty strong line of storms stretching from the hill country to DFW right now. If you leave in the next hour you'll likely be driving a good chunk of time in heavy weather and I imagine those tornado warnings will move with the storms.

. Probably not. A lot of phones have do not disturb features and I can certainly see folks on vacation turning them off completely.

Sad sad. There are automated systems. My community has one and the country does as well. I get a phone call with a recorded message, a text, and an email. Ooops! Never intended to sign up for all three. I like it though because parents can sign their kids up for it as well. So they get the warnings too.

So the flooding is about to happen again. Flash flood warnings out and storms repeatedly going over the same areas where the rain fell Saturday night. Could be a repeat performance with the river flooding if the rain keeps falling (which it looks like it will).

You sure we were evacuated out of our time share in 2001 when they were worried about the dam before it finally went over the spillway
