Noble Foundation Researchers Revolutionize Feral Hog Control

I saw this in FB earlier. I think it would be even better if it was solid steel on the bottom like a giant bacon press. So when it gets tripped, it flattens them out and pounds them into the dirt.

It spins, why not just deploy big ninja blades and make it like a big food processor...

I could watch that all day long.

Also, I'm pretty sure one of the little ones that runs off to the left gets squished or at least gets a leg caught under it when it falls.

Its neat to see it being assembled, they got it down to a 1 man job almost. Another one of those why didnt I think of that inventions.....

That thing has evolved a lot since I first saw it. Originally it was a large caged box suspended from the ground by 3 or 4 poles and winches with a similar release. That spiral drop cage system looks great.

I had them as a speaker at my landowner workshop last August. The research behind the system is impressive.

Thats awesome. I feel like I could build this whole thing myself, but I'm not sure I have the capability or know-how to bend the square tubing that perfect.

Probably because if the pigs root with their snouts it will be more difficult to lift up and get underneath with the rotational force.

What is the trigger mechanism?

The sloped bars help support around all sides vs vertical slots.

Trigger mechanism is from your computer or cell phone via 3G service. You get a signal from the camera that there has been motion, look on your phone or computer at what is in the trap and hit the trigger if you want to set it off.

Most traps I have seen with remote set off are pretty expensive. If someone could make something like this for a 3-400 dollars they could make a killing.

What prevents them from digging their way out before you can get there?

Worth the $6K

Part of it is the circular shape, they tend to keep moving. When they get any kind of corner to slow them down, or bunch up, they are more inclined to start digging.---question came up during the workshop.

And I bet you could modify that trap to have entry panels (a al a 6 trap) once its down to catch additional hogs after the fall but before you collect them.

well, it does raise back up...

I've had some experience with assembly and use of this system and it's really something to see in-person if you have the chance. I've worked at the Noble Foundation for almost three years now and a lot of work and effort has gone into it to get it to this point.

You don't get $1.50 in my area. They do it by body weights. The smallest ones (below 50 lbs) they don't pay anything for. pigs above 60 lbs...$.35/lb. 70lbs and up they pay .45/lb plus 2 or 3 dollars. 100lbs is .45/lb plus 10$ etc. Still would be a payoff but it would take longer to recoup. I'm considering it for my place but am not enamored with a $70 monitoring fee/month. Gotta be a non-proprietary camera/trigger available from someone else.

How do you get them to run into your trailer so you take them to the buyer?
