I asked on the Aggieland board, but have so far received no replies. Working on the assumption that some here might use old gas heaters at their camps, since that's what these two I bought were previously used for, I figured I'd ask here. Does anyone know of a shop in BCS that works on vintage gas heaters? The guy I bought these from used them at his cabin, and was running them off of propane, but based upon the flames it looks like they were either converted to natural gas at some point, or are in need of new gas orifices, so looking to have these heaters checked out before setting them up in the shop. Thanks.

Call Bugge Plumbing in Bryan----- 776-1100. They helped me out years ago on converting a burner from natural gas to propane. They had the different size orifices to convert from one gas to another. You'll need to know what the heater is set up for now so they can convert it if that's what you need to do. Blow it out with compressed air. Maybe just need to be cleaned out to burn properly. If you think the orifice needs to be replaced you just remove it, so really no need to "work" on one since it's an easy fix.

So you are worried about running propane through something that runs Natural gas? Right? I did this with a dearborn in a good sized deer blind for years with no problem. I do not know about converting to natural gas, but running propane should work.

No, both were originally setup to run LP gas, according to the plates on the back, and the guy I bought them from claimed to be running them on propane in his hunting cabin, but the flames are way out of line from where they should be, and the only way to get them to not burn incredibly rich is to barely have the gas valve on at all and have the air shutter fully open. Given the differences between how natural gas and propane burn, my guess is someone drilled out the orifice at some point in the past and now the mix appears too rich. What I am wanting is for both heaters to burn properly to minimize carbon monoxide production since I will be using them in a largely enclosed shop.

Thanks! I'll give them a call, after vacuuming the burners out and inspecting the orifices installed.
