I hunted in west tx 3 times and new Mexico once, spent a lot of money and shot one 160" mule deer and some smaller ones.

Where would you go to shoot a monster muley regardless of cost?? (other than Mexico, I'm not going there)

I shot a gross 185 near Yeso, NM, but the B&C score was 167. They're out there.

Nets are for fish. 185 is a heck of a deer.

Paunsaugunt in Utah...I've seen them with my own two eyes and there are some absolutely mind blowing mule deer back in that place! I've been putting in for an archery tag there for the past 7 years...one day they will call my number!

Alberta looks to have some big boyz, as does Utah

I know I said regardless of price but $17500 is little high, I'm thinking jn the $7-10k range

Alberta is a pretty good place to start (buddy of mine and I shot 185"+ mulies on a 3 day hunt), Desert Mule Deer are 8-10k. I have seen lots of big Colorado deer as well. We hunted Medicine Hat region of Alberta.

I hunted north Sonora Mx last January and am working out the details to lease the same ranch next year. 2 200"+ were killed the week that I was there. 2 others spotted that we could not get on. I have no reservations about hunting there, within 10 miles of the border, but further south is probably safer if that's your concern. All the way to the Sea of Cortez is good country and not hunted hard due to perceptions .

There are plenty of deer that big in Texas, but it might take more than 3 hunts to get one. (I've been going for 22 years and have only killed one that size)

If I were looking for the best one-shot opportunity, I'd probably say Utah.

It's probably best to get over your hang up with Mexico and head to Sonora. You'll be fine. Not like you'll be cruising the streets of Juarez.

Shot mine in carbon county WY if a dry 189 firs the bill and it was. $4500 hunt 3 years ago but they don't shoot 180+ every day

If you want to spend the money I can turn you on to a guy who only shoots high 180 to 200's in Canada

Wyoming. A buddy and I went in September. He shot a 195 and I shot a 170. It was the first mule deer he had ever seen on the hoof. We are going back as soon as we can get drawn.

You could always try Lubbock Co. next year. Not sure the first one qualifies but the 2nd seems to.

a little help please...

I wish. Just started floating around here since the season just ended. The first was shot SE of Lubbock near Ransom Canyon spillway. The 2nd was shot right on the Lubbock Co./Hale Co. line. Don't know either of the guys but a friend of mine does and shared these with me. We've had such a bad drought for 3 years here, much like the rest of the state, and the deer seemed to move closer and closer to the city to take advantage of the cultivation around the outskirts. We've always seen some really nice Muleys around the caprock but nothing in the way of a season for Lubbock Co. or many others east and south of us. North and west have the typical 1 or 2 week seasons but both of these came out of Lubbock Co..
