I'm in the process of replacing some current boat shoes I own which are the Columbia leather ones. I love the columbia's compared to the Sperry Billfish because they are lighter and more comfortable, however the smell I get from the Columbia's makes me and the wife want to vomit. I'm not opposed to going back to the Billfish, however with my previous pairs the quality has declined which is why I made the shift to the Columbia's for my current pair. I am curious if ya'll have any recs for me?

Do they make antimicrobial ones of good quality?

Get Sperry. Try different styles. You can also get antimicrobial inserts to swap with the original ones.

I'd first see a foot doctor and get the moldy feet tended to. Then go look at new shoes.
rather be fishing

Regardless of how dumb anyone may think they are, Crocs are my favorite shoes in the boat. They dry out very quickly and and are much lighter than Sperry's.

I'm not sure what you mean by a boat shoe. If you are looking for something with the Sperry sole on it I have, Sea Racers, Son-R and Voyagers from Sperry. No way I could go offshore in leather as wet as I get.

If you are strickly looking for a moccasin try Rancourt and Company or better still....Black Hills Moccasins. Neither are cheap.

when I say boat shoe, i meant boat shoe style. I not only wear them fishing, but everywhere else. work, weekends, outdoors, etc

He's talking frat daddy shoes, not shoes to wear while fishing in a boat.

Just wear no-show socks. That's the whole point of them. To keep your feet from sweating into your shoes and causing your feet/shoes to smell like butt crack.

I wear Billfish and like them, but they don't get many miles on them... from the house to the dock or ramp. Soon as I'm on the boat I go all Jose Wejebe and stow them until we're back to the dock.

Offshore, YMMV.

if you can read I clearly stated that I wear the shoes fishing AND everywhere else.....some people choose not to wear sneakers everywhere. I don't like wearing socks or sandals which is why I prefer boat/deck shoes......for the record I never belonged to a Frat and I'm most likely older than you by several decades

I have some Seabago boat shoes that I like. I'm going to have to try some inserts because I can't keep them smelling reasonable either.

I wasn't trying to be rude. I was just clarifying what type of shoes you were looking for. Most everybody I know refers to "boat shoes" as "frat daddy shoes". That's exactly what the 18-year olds wear with their plaid shorts, Easter-pastel long-sleeved button down, woven belt, and costas. Can't help you with the stinky feet/shoe issue. Closed shoes and no socks tends to make that happen because pretty much everybody's feet sweat to some extent (especially during the summer months). Props on not being in a frat though. And congrats on being old.

Austin Cty. I have a lot of the ones you are talking about but like CP I don't fish in them. I looked up Black Hills Mocs on the JL Powell website and discovered Rancourt makes them also. Rancourt Mocs are heavier than Sperry's etc.

Putting a pair of Black Hills on 02 would be like putting caviar on a hot dog.

I won't disagree with that at all. I'm pretty much a straight shooter when it comes to clothes. And I wouldn't wear those Black Hills shoes if somebody paid me to wear them. I can only imagine the ensemble that you wear to church on Sundays.

So let me guess. You wear jeans and boots 99% of the time except funerals or weddings

There's your problem. Feet stink. Get a few pairs and rotate to help with the smell. As another poster pointed out before you whipped out the birth certificate, get some no show socks (Sperry sells some) to wear.

I'm pushing 40 and been wearing that same stuff since HS.

Minus the woven belt.

I've already said I do not like wearing socks!

with all that has been said I think I'm leaning toward a style of the Sanuk boat shoes???

Then enjoy stinky shoes. If your wife says anything, tell her that her coot stinks.

Then enjoy your stinky feet and shoes. Socks won't prevent them from stinking but they will greatly reduce the vomit inducing funk you seem to be producing.

I have had my Sperry's for 3 years now, and i haven't really had a problem with them smelling.

Granted, i clean them out with water and let them dry on the porch. Once they are dry, i saddle soap them (if I've sweat heavily in them), and then i put some Mink Oil on them to condition the leather. Probably won't get another pair until the sole of these peels off so they fall apart.

Definitely feel like I've gotten my money's worth with them.

the Billfish I've had have never gotten the stink like the Columbia's. The reason I steered away from the Sperry Billfish was because of the durability. For the price it seemed like they didnt last as long as they used to.

Three things will survive a nuclear war - Twinkies, cockroaches, and Sperry-Topsiders. They are the greatest shoes ever made... Get a good pair of Gold Cups and never look back.

As pointed out, closed shoes + no socks typically = funk. Probably not going to find a magic shoe to fix that. My only recommendation, if you are that against socks, is to get a couple pairs and when you're not wearing them leave those little balls that absorb any odor in them. Those seem to work in my running shoes.

This caused me to do some googling, being careful not to catch the ghey based on what I might find. While I think there is ample opportunity to do that with some of the stuff in that catalog - there are a couple damn good looking shoes there too.

I think we have found the Yeti of boat shoes. I am sure that the Grizzly Moc HAS to be a damn good shoe to cost that much, and that says nothing about the classic boat shoe.
