I'm going dove hunting and will be walking around quite a bit. Any suggestions for bags or belts to carry dove and shells in?

If they're all the same I would prefer something made in the USA

Just get one from academy or basspro. Makes no sense to spend 3x the money just to have a US flag stitched to a corner of an otherwise identical product.

Support the free market and sweatshops.

I have this one that I use when I forget my actual vest. I like it quite a bit.

I hear yeti is coming out with their deluxe dove pouch. Only $399 and it will hold your shot doves better than anything else on the market.

Keeps the powder crisp longer.

Thanks for the heads up. I know the sweatshops make okay stuff. Just a personal preference.

Too bad Mother Gear folded, they made some pretty awesome upland vests. Glad I got one before they closed shop.

I have a belt from Browning. Leather belt with strong canvas pouches. Been using it for a few years now and besides a little dove blood, still look brand new.

I just use my truck as a mobile dove blind and storage unit while I'm checking deer feeders.

I like to walk while dove hunting. Something like this does the trick for me (dove + shells + water)

Filson has some really nice "Made in the USA" gear. It will be something to hand down to your kids.

I use a Filson bag with a cheap academy brand camo fishing shirt and blue jeans. Sometime don't even need the camo shirt other times I wear marine desert camo it works great in south Texas for late season dove

Filson is nice, but if I want USA made, I might as well go with Texas made too and buy from White Wing.

Ohh I thought y'all meant shiner white wing. I usually just take a 32oz shiner bock

I need to save my pennies for one of these. I had a squirrel wake up and chew a hole in a vest once, and the following season a dove woke up and worked his way out of the extra hole in my vest and took off flying ... or maybe I just need to do a better job of incapacitating squirrels and birds.

100% true. The story starts when I won a Winchester Model 9410 in a NWTF banquet that my dad was volunteered at several years ago. The 9410 is a really cool gun - kind of looks like an old 1894 30-30, but it's a lever action .410 that only shoots 2 1/2 inch .410 shells. However, it was full choke with decent sites, and so I got a wild hair to go squirrel hunting with it. Now, my dad and I have a long tradition of squirrel hunting together (followed by a dinner of mom's squirrel gumbo later), and I usually take one of my grandfather's old .410's, so this wasn't a new idea. However, I never tried it with 2 1/2 inch shells.

When I went to buy the shorter shells, I had a bit of trouble finding them, and the only ones I could find were #6s. Undeterred, I took it to the woods with my trusty old game vest I bought with my allowance in about 1992 when heading out on my first dove hunt in Abilene, TX.

Anyway, I had a bit of a problem that day in the pineywoods of East Texas. I kept knocking squirrels out of trees with those #6 shells, but then they'd hit the ground running and I'd have to shoot them again or knock them in the head. My count was off at the end of the day, but I found a hole gnawed in the corner of the game bag portion of the vest. I didn't notice the offending escapee, which isn't really unsurprising as I spent a lot of the day sitting against a tree when I guess he could have slinked out without my noticing.

Fast forward about a year, and as I couldn't find a cheap replacement in time, I planned to use the same old game vest for dove hunting. I was in Breckenridge opening morning with a little Stevens 512 Goldwing o/u .28 that I acquired, and was heading in for lunch with a full bag when I felt a rustling in my bag and out popped a dove. He took off flying, but due to his injuries he stalled in mid air and just hovered in front of me. I dispatched him in a puff of feathers from about 3 feet away, and then I finally retired the old game vest.

Yeah, I used to avoid it because they'd bleed everywhere, but I do that pretty often now if I'm not sure.

If you're worried about getting blood in your game bag from headless dove, then just tink their head on your gun barrel while firmly holding on to the the body. Out.

My dad hates pulling the head off because of the blood spewing. Years ago (a decade or more) we were dove hunting in South Texas and after we had been afield for quite a while a dove took off from his vest flying as if it hadn't been hit in the first place. He stood there in stunned disbelief without firing a shot. It took a while before I could stop laughing at him.

I know a couple 13 year old girls knocking down birds who love ripping the heads off (and throwing them at each other)
