How long do you want to ignore this user?
Looking to install a couple speakers on the back patio.

1. They would be under the patio roof very safe from weather (always in shade, no rain, etc)

2. Its a one story house with attic over the patio so easy access for installation.

3. We also plan to put a flat screen out there sometime soon

4. I would like it to be able to play the audio from the tv as well as audio from iPods (maybe over blue tooth?)

Any suggestions?

Receiver with two or more zones and some outdoor speakers.

Do you currently own a receiver?

Yes I have one that is about 13 years old but still works. It's just collecting dust in the garage. It's a Sony.

Any brand/model recommendations on speakers?

Pretty good chance that your 13-year old receiver isn't going to have blue tooth capability, so you are probably going to have to purchase a new one. We are building a covered patio right now and will be going with (4) Klipsch CP-4 speakers. All the reviews for Klipsch are very good. Buddy that does audio/video stuff in BCS highly recommended them. I asked about the need for outdoor-rated speakers, as mine will be out of the elements as well. He recommended going with those due to humidity in the Houston area. He said that I could go with regular speakers, but he wouldn't promise that they would last more than a couple years.

May check out the Sonos playbar. It connects to your TV and can be expanded with wireless speakers.

Thought about buying one for the new TV and BestBuy was completely out and had them on backorder. Need to revisit this idea actually.

If you're not looking to upgrade your home theater with a new receiver, I don't have any experience with other options.

I know this thread has been brought up on the Nerdery in the recent past, so try searching there.

If you do end up with a new receiver, outdoor speaker are sort of a consumable. No one really spends a lot of money on them because no one cares about "audiophile" quality outdoors. I have a pair of Yamaha outdoor speakers that I bought from Newegg.com for around $70 shipped. They work well mounted under the eaves of my roof, are clear and clean enough for listening to music while outside working/eating/playing/drinking and were inexpensive. Model is NSAW150W.

I have a sonos connect amp installed in my patio - fantastic piece of equipment...

Sonos would be good, but not the speakers. They don't make any outdoor speakers. And as said above, even if under cover they will take abuse. The connect amp, as stated, would be a good option, but is expensive and you still have to buy the speakers. It will make the speakers easy as heck to control, though.

You can check out outdoorspeakerdepot.com - I have 4 outdoor ceiling speakers from them - fairly inexpensive but quality is good.

Polk Atrium 5&6's are nice.

I install those all the time.

Your old Sony won't cut it for much but will for outdoor audio only. Throw on an airport express and you can Airplay anything from your phone.

For TV audio you just need to run stereo cables from your sat/cable box.

I will second the polk atrium's. I have four up around my pool and they sound great. You can also find a great brand receiver that is relatively inexpensive and has hdmi inputs, bluetooth, etc. I have seen Sony, Denon, Yamaha's all at decent prices. Just shop around.

You can buy a Bluetooth dongle for the old receiver for 20-30 bucks. Or an Apple TV/Airport and use airplay.

Yamaha's previously mentioned for ~70 are great. Assuming you have neighbors, you can't blast music in the backyard anyway. Plus they will eventually fail to the elements anyway.
