Many legal gun owners have good reason to not subscribe to the permissions of a CHL. I wouldnt use that as a dis-qualifier.

im really only comfortable dealing with Aggies from texags. every sale i've had, buyer or seller, has gone smooth. from guns to pool table to tickets.

I only buy/sell from Aggies on Texags. Never had an issue.

last update:
did a lineup yesterday. me and buddy both IDd the same guy. he's a minor, 17, and currently on probation. he's been convicted/plead guilty to 8 different crimes in his young life (including agg assault and burglary). as we BSed with cops after lineup and buddy filled out papers to get his gun back, cops said perp cried like a baby when arrested and tried to broker a deal that if he gave the gun back, would cops let him go? (whole room burst into laughter).

the cousin of perp was the driver who drove perp from our theft to the sig sauer theft minutes later. he's 18 and will do time because the weapon was actually recovered I. his attic, not perps.

when buddy got the weapon back it was still in his case. he inventoried everything with the evidence officer and said "this ammo isn't mine." at some point between theft and recovery, perps loaded the mag with 223 rounds. we all surmised what might happen if you fired 223 in a 300 BLK chambered rifle. one sargeant (cool as hell, by the way), may even buy the gun from my buddy.

anyways, I plan to write to a letter to the lancaster city council, as every cop we dealt with was great and pleasant. they expressed obvious frustration with dealing with so many repeat offenders in lancaster. they commented that they are underpaid and understaffed for a city of that size and the...ahem....demographics. (lots of crime).

Nice ending. Fyi-17 is considered an adult in Texas. He should be charged accordingly.

Scary update. Two more notices were posted by users on Texas Gun Trader this weekend; both guys were robbed of their guns in the same fashion, but this time, the perp pointed a gun at them. One guy grabbed the muzzle and drew his own weapon and got his gun back; the other guy wasn't carrying and the perp made off with it. My buddy reached out to these posters and sent picture of the perp who stole my buddy's gun - both posters said it was the same guy.

Dang.

Attempted snatch and run.

I was showing the "buyer" the gun in the bed of my pickup as the "driver" sat in the magnum and my backup sat in the cab of my truck. After a few minutes of looking it over he said "BYE!" and ran towards the magnum. My backup sprang from my truck and blocked the path of the car, and drew down on the pair. I pulled the driver's door open and was greeted by a gun, which I grabbed the muzzle of and pushed away from me. After exchanging a few words the young men gathered that it was best to return my property and leave.

Be vigilante, ALWAYS take back up, and if it doesn't feel right, walk away. Everyone involved is very fortunate to walk away from this. My friend is a former Army Ranger and came very close to ending the situation with lethal force. Had the driver not dropped his gun when he did, things would have ended way different. I harbor no animosity, just pray that these young men see the error of their ways and let God into their life. I am posting up their information to hopefully help safeguard others. That is the extent of the info I have. I DID inform the buyer prior to meeting that I would need to see valid State ID, and would issue a bill of sale. We obivously didn't get to that point.

I know they apparently posted about on the other forum, did they call the cops?

cops have been called. perp pled guilty in the incident I was involved in. sentencing hearing is Thursday. he faces a max of 6 months in a juvi home because he's 16. are you kidding me.

Maybe if the cops pick him up on these new charges and the he misses his sentencing hearing because he's in county jail he will get a harsher sentence? Or maybe they will charge him as an adult. If I were you I would be sure to let the prosecutor in your case know about these new incidents.

Can he play defense?

I wonder if people could be convinced to voluntarily start getting background checks for a private gun sale. Maybe a PI type person could do the check. You both show up, both get checked, each pay your small fee, and the transaction can go if everything is good. To assuage peoples' paranoia, the check could be done but no paperwork needed unless both parties decided they wanted to do a bill of sale.

The nice thing about a voluntary system would be that WE dictate how it works rather than our crazy politicians. Self policing of a problem would head off more oppressive efforts by our anti-gun friends.

I think your post is flawed just a bit Shifty.

The way the OP reads is that a 17 year old black kid attempted to buy a guy from them, not that they attempted to sell to him. When they realized that he appeared underage and then he produced an out of state DL, they tried to terminate the transaction and that's when he stole the gun from them. Same kid robbed several other people using the same method.

The kid could pull the same scheme at an Academy or Gander gun counter.
