Well after having many pairs of ariats, I decided to try there cobalt quantum sole. BIG mistake, though they are very comfortable after only having them 5 almost 6 months the sole is coming apart. Neither cavenders nor Ariat is willing to do anything about it. So I guess it's time to purchase new boots from a different place as well as change boot brands.

If this is for work why would you not wear red wings

Easy because I'm an environmental scientist and it's not physical labor, more of walking around a little bit and sitting in an office. They are submitted to nothing as compared to my other work ariats and bates.

If you work in an office and sit all day, why don't wear adidas?

Because I have to also go out and meet clients, often times on pad sites or pipeline ROW. Also tennis shoes are not appropriate office attire per the employee handbook.

Being in management the most physical labor I perform is loading a new ream of paper in my printer but my Redwings last 6 years, not 6 months.

You should try some XC4's from Johnston and Murphy. Best office shoes I've ever had!

Love my Lucchese boots. And you can resole them.

+1 on the red wing option. I work in a similar capacity (steel toe required but you are just visiting, usually). I don't bring them to change into them, either I wear them out of the house or I do not. Bought mine in '95, still going. Hell, I got married in '02. Just saying...

I manage my own farm and work in ag chem and seed sales. I can't wear boots anymore due to a podiatric issue. I started wearing J&M Colvard Venetian's with the XC4 and my foot pain went away. Bad news is that they are $150 shoes and they only last a year before they look too worn to wear for work. But they are the most comfortable shoes I have worn that aren't tennis shoes. Worth a look if you value comfort.

I wear boots everyday. 50/50 office/harsh environment. Have probably gone through 5 or 6 Ariats in the same timeframe Redwings will last plus some.

For durability and comfort, no work boot touches redwing.

New boots won't help for the types of activities cledus gets into.

Ariats are crap. Never understood the love for them. Never been much of a Redwing fan either, especially with the claims of comfort. They can get comfortable, but it takes just shy of forever.

Bought some Double H boots to try out. Steel toe, but overall they look far more like a dress boot than work boot. Pretty comfortable, but still need a good break in period. So far they have been very durable, even with the fatass lab chewing half an upper off the day after I got them.

I had a pair of Double H's that fell apart in under a year.

My Double H experience was awful, the structure in the heel fell apart after a few months and the soles came all to pieces by 6 months.

I got a pair of ariats as a Christmas gift 5 years ago and they are still holding strong. Just a very basic pair that probably weren't more than $120 and I've drug them through mud while repairing underground water lines, hauled equipment around at the farm, fixed fence, etc. you name it they've been there. I've never had to resole them or anything like that, they've done everything I've asked of them.

That being said, I know they are made in China and I like to buy American when possible so I will likely buy another brand when they do finally break down. I've heard a lot of good things about justin boots and know that at least some of theirs are still made in America. You could give them a look.

The last three pairs of boots I have bought have been from the Justin Bent Rail line. Nice enough to look good with khakis and durable enough to stomp around construction sites. A little water and saddle soap to clean them up. Only thing I've ever done is replace an insole.

Because the Chinaman doesn't know **** about making boots.

Try to find some American made boots.

I love my Redwing 4470's.

Going on ~4 years wearing them 10-12 hrs a day.

Well just got a call from Ariat, apparently making comments on there FB page works pretty good. Asked for me to send them the boots and they will be sending me replacements.

Ariats are trash. Tried one pair about 8 years ago or so. Never should have left redwing.

My last paid of twisted x boots lasted nearly 5 years of working in an office/machine shop environment. I liked them so much I bought another pair

Twisted X are also made in China. I just look really hard for American made boots. But I don't have to wear work boots daily.

Have a pair of Ariats that I liked well enough but the most comfortable boots I have are Durango's - like wearing tennis shoes.

I'll take the cheapest that are comfortable.

Redwing boots sponsored a county singer I disagreed with. Will not consider them. Like my ariats and have had no problems. Glad that they are doing something about the quality issue.
