My minimag solitare is due for an upgrade this Christmas, figure I would start the search here and see what you guys use/own/know stuff about.

I'm looking for a pocket light, pretty small for everyday pocket use. One common cell, AAA or AA (AA preferred). Sized something like the Fenix LD01 (size only for reference since that it the one that I saw at REI.

MUST be LED!
MUST BE SINGLE BATTERY
prefer a button (but twist on is OK)
I don't want or need strobe, disco, morse code. Low/bright/off is enough.

Help me out here flashlight gurus!

I have the Fenix, don't know model right now but I assume its the same one. It takes one AA and has a tail end on/off button and a small button near the end(head) to change brightness levels and its my favorite light by far. The one that's a close second is the Fenix model that takes 1 cr123 battery, don't know model # off hand either but its perfect size for edc IMO. I bought several Fenix brand lights off of camofire in the past year and I really like every one of them, they seem to be very good lights.

I have a fenix E01. It takes one AAA.
It's about the size of a Chapstick. It is 10 lumens and burns for 21 hours. 10 lumens is plenty bright for most task that you would need an EDC type light for. I've used it for following trails at night, changing tires in the dark, etc.

The newer mini mags are supposed to be pretty good

Go to the countycomm.com website and look at the Maratac AA and AAA flashlights. These have three light levels. I would recommend the AAA, as it is extremely small, yet puts out enough light for just about anything you would need a flashlight for, short of night tracking or SAR.

I have an Olight i3 EOS on my key ring. Runs off a AAA and has held up to the beating.

On the cheap side I've bought several of the LED flashlights that run on a single AA off amazon for $3.50. Haven't had an issue with them yet over te past two months. Can't beat the price

Just checked and the model I've got that takes a single AA battery is the Fenix LD 12. I assume it is the new version of the LD 10 but it includes the small button near the head of the light to change brightness levels. Very very good light IMO.

I have the Streamlight MicroStream LED Pen Light that runs on a single AAA. It has a tail cap button, but only on/off. It comes with a clip and can be had for less than $20. It's surprisingly bright for a single AAA and has been reliable for me. I also got a Fenix EO1 that is just trash compared to the Streamlight, regarding brightness and it's a twist on.

I like well made flashlights. But a made in China aluminum body with an o-ring and a switch for $30 is nuts. The profit on these must be obscene.

Bump for MSW or any other input! I think the Fenix is headed this way and I'll be looking at another light or two for Christmas.

I'll second 96AustinAg.

For the money it's gonna be hard to find something better. It's my EDC light. I work rural EMS and the vast majority of the time it's just me & my partner at night in the sticks. I needed something bright, lightweight and reliable, and the ProTac fits that bill for me.

The Fenix lights are very nice, and an excellent choice. I've always been partial to Streamlight though. I've had several, and when I was still on the engine I had a ProPoly clamped to my helmet. They're good lights for a reasonable price.
