A couple buddies and I have started looking into elk hunts for next. Alaska and Canada seem way too expensive once you throw in transportation and shipping of kill. I've seen websites for Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, and New Mexico. Anyone have recommendations on where to go or recommend a particular hunting service?

I have hunted mule deer with this guy a couple of times. He does A LOT of elk hunts. He has a booth at the Dallas Safari Club every year if you want to talk to him in person.

They do back country hunts off of horseback. They are based out of Cody, WY and they hunt a lot of the land that borders Yellowstone.

AEI is in Unit 55 in Colorado. I have known the owners since '84. Their private acreage joins my friends and is surrounded by BLM land. Their main business is "confidence" courses starting in the spring for companys and youth groups.....

They hunt on a break even type basis to help their local employees get thru the winter. They have a lot of repeat customers year after year. They do archery, muzzle, 1st and 2nd rifle. I can tell you more if you are interested.

I've been to the Jicarilla Reservation twice now...would highly recommend. It is a little different than a straight guided hunt/lodge, but it is a blast.

Another Wyoming outfit owned by a friend of mine. Great guy who went to high school with my wife. Bought this unit a little less than a year ago.

AZ has some fine hunting, if you can get a permit. 5A & 5B, and 6A & 6B are the premier units for elk. The 3's are pretty solid as well (Sitegreaves National Forest) and 4A & 4B are also highly sought after permits.

If you get down into the lower eastern portion of the state, Units 1, 27 and 28 also produce some good elk hunting.
