Heck.......with my child like imagination.......i thought it was a saber tooth tiger. dad brought me back to reality and informed what it actually was. Ofcourse, we did not call the experts to confirm. So it must be a tall tale. Perhaps we both just imagined it.

The mind is good at filling in the blanks. But folks verifying stuff they've had no previous experience with (ie-most Texans in reality) makes for interesting observations. My previous work with lions is why I function as a second opinion on a frequent basis.

Just an fyi--I have probably dealt with this particular issue more more than any other egg head.

l live in Mountain Lion territory and it is amazing how many times people claim to have seen a lion and then it ends of being a dog.

But honestly, it looks like a mountain lion. The shoulder structure looks too broad to be a bobcat.

The key here is to note the white patches on the back of the ears, and the black tip of the tail. You can see them in gwellis's pictures too.

Some of your neighbors are are the worst about this issue. Granted, it's been pretty quiet the last couple years.

Doesn't surprise me. I have seen a lot of bobcats over the years in the daytime. A while back on the subdivision website someone mentioned that they had seen a big buck eating their shrubs. Another owner, "I have lived here 18 years and have never seen a deer."

I put out some corn and set up a camera. This was the second morning. I leave real early on trips. I will usually see something leaving the subdivision. I have seen possums, rabbits, foxes, armadillos, coons, deer, bobcats and as many as five yotes(at one time) on the game cam. I have also seen mountain lion eyes in the dark....I am expecting to get one on camera any day now....they are shy

While they do exist this far east (how do you think the Florida Panther go there?) that is a bobcat.

They used to be a lot of places further east. Catamounts in New England.

I've never seen a mountain lion and only a few bobcats, but I feel like if I ever did see one I'd be able to positively identify it. I probably couldn't identify it from tracks or a kill or anything like that because I don't have that kind of experience, but I at least know what they look like...

I'm from Colleyville. We used to have this "boonies" type road that ran about a mile in the middle of town. It wasn't paved or anything at the time (more like a wide path) and was heavily wooded for about 100 acres; still kinda is. I was running along it one day and turned to check for any traffic behind me when I saw the biggest cat I've ever seen about forty yards back. Yellow, massive, with a tail that curled like Scooby Doo. It walked into the road, stopped, looked both ways, then just sulked on back into the woods. I stood there dumbfounded and thought "Nobody is ever going to believe this."

I'm not sure why you guys think it's impossible for it to be a mountain lion.

According to the TPWD, mountain lions are in fact found in Texas. I grew up along the border and my family has owned a ranch just across the Rio Grande for almost 50 years and I can assure that mountail lions roam our land.

Who said they don't think it's a ML because of geography? They're all just looking at the picture and calling it like they see it. Nobody's saying it can't be an ML because of the location.

While I don't doubt there could be mountain lions running around Caldwell Co. that's 100% a bobcat. And just like ursus says all the time, the number of "hunters" who know for certain that's a mountain lion on that thread is flat out hilarious.

We see long tail cats in Normangee every few years, including this year.
