I have always carried a Glock, they fit my hand and are reliable. I have never had a FTF on any of my glocks (10,000 rounds or so). Most FTF in glocks are from substituting other mags, and using ammo that is not consistent in its manufacture. My wife cannot shoot a glock because they don't fit her hand, she has a great Springfield EMP. nice gun but it doesn't fit my hand. Fit, fit, fit.

I can carry my glock without one in the chamber, and still get off first round in less than 1.5 sec. Just takes practice, if it makes you feel better about the safety issue. I would not advise anyone to start carrying a glock with one chambered unless you have become very proficient. Remember they make them that way for a reason, so you can pull and fire with no extra waste of motion. Not for everyone.

There was a shooter that died of a self inflicted gunshot wound a couple of years back at a range near the Woodlands. He was taking a class from an Israeli instructor that taught that method of draw. I'm not certain if he was practicing it when the accident happened but during a draw he lost his grip on the pistol, tried to grab it as it fell, and accidentally fired the gun into his leg.

Xd is very similar to the glock function wise, but I like them ergonomically a bit more

on a Glock? That sounds hard to believe, even if he had a lighter trigger put in it.

This is exactly why I bought my xD 40 over the glock. Essentially the same gun, but the xD fits me better. I don't like the feel of the XDm at all fired before I bought the original XD. And I've held the XDs but have not fired.

I don't have a clue what type of gun it was. He had cleared the holster so regardless of type the safety would have been off. The comment was more toward the Israeli carry which is without a round in the chamber. I know the instructor at that class taught that method but not certain if that's why he lost control of the weapon during the draw. Here's the story.

ok, thanks for sharing.

On a single action where you are drawing and chambering a round in a hurry, I could see an accident like that easily happening.

I could see it happening with any weapon, especially one that did not have a thumb safety or it was off. It's called poor trigger finger control

not Jewish, but yeah that's the gig.
It's not that difficult with just a few hours of practice, and doing the draw at least a few times a week. I guess you can shoot yourself just about any way there is, but don't know how that would happen using the Israeli method. Perfect storm?

I think that might be more likely w. an Israeli draw, than a conventional - although trying to "catch" any gun can go poorly.

In a stressful situation (even practicing with a timer), to avoid sweeping your hand, you'd have to... delay the weak hand, I suppose, until you've cleared the holster?

Is there a way to deal w. a one-handed draw in a reasonable manner?

(When I appendix carry, I only carry my P7 for similar concerns - but, personally, I would carry a single-action revolver, or a P7 before I'd carry a GLOCK with an empty chamber.)

Damn, people still carry with an empty chamber.

I'd love to see a vid of this 1.5 sec draw chamber shoot an accurate shot from concealment.

Even better, do it one handed.

Brad, do yall Have cc in SC?
I feel comfy carrying my Glock the way I mentioned, sorry if that offended some. I have tried and practiced most methods, this works best for me.
I also carry a nice easily accessible knife that serves as one of my backups. It too does not have one chambered.

Offended? Nah.

Skeptical of your claims? Yup.

Realizes you're inhibiting yourself by carrying condition 3? Yup.

Yup, SC has shall-issue. My TX permit is good throughout the South - pretty much in any state that I would have the faintest inclination to go. (If only there was a way to drive to PA w.o. going through MD.)

Yeah, we are planning a trip to see our daughters (one at Ft Bragg married to Army guy, one at Quantico VA married to a Marine), will have to get to CCA to trace CC states, not even sure about VA. I know the Marine family lives on base, so we will have to leave CC with off base friends. Anybody driven from TX to NC to VA?
