Snakes have never bothered me.... and while I don't particularly like heights, I don't freeze with fear at height either.

Me no likey spiders... and generally will kill on sight. If someone wants to call that "sissy"... so be it.... I could give a **** less.

Spiders are cool creatures. I've never had a problem with them or snakes. Had a pet tarantula that I caught in the old cemetery in Frio Town (which is a ghost town) when I was a kid. Had the thing for 2 years and it grew larger than my hand. It got so used to me that it would crawl up on my hand and just sit there. I loved watching it hunt when I would throw crickets in the cage. One of the coolest things I ever saw was a tarantula and a ground hornet fighting each other for their lives out at my grandparents place. They rolled around on the ground for about 15 minutes. Sadly the hornet came out alive. It then somehow picked the dead spider up and flew off with it to its burrow somewhere. I also had great times grabbing those heaping piles of daddy longlegs with my hands and scaring the crap out of my older cousin.

I absolutely detest snakes and spiders. I will either a) freeze b) run and scream like a sissy baby or c) kill any and every snake I see without question, but I'm that scared of spiders. Yeah, I don't like them, but GENERALLY they are small enough for me to kill easily. Snakes on the other hand move too quickly for me and scare the sheeeeeet out of me.

I almost ran in to this guy in the flower bed at our house. He was huge (body length excluding legs between an inch and 2 inches long IIRC). I looked him up and I think he is relatively harmless but still greatful that I did not walk in to the web.

Only "heights" gets to me.

However I have a PPL and flying doesn't get to me.
So maybe I get a 1/2 on heights.

Heights I don't have a problem with, snakes I can handle all day long, but a spider falling onto me or walking into a spider web...I turn into Richard Simmons.

Im way more afraid of heights than either spider or snakes, and not that bad about them.

I used to feed those garden spiders and banana spiders by hand when I could find a grasshopper or cricket. It is so cool to watch em wrap em up then bite em.

Working in Fortbend and brazoria county I've gotten use to driving a 4wheeler through the woods and then feeling something climbing up by neck or back and I know it's one of those big ass banana spiders... No use in running he gonna be there till I take him off.

That's how I am but maybe we got desensitized considering our major. Snakes don't bother me, either. Heights? I cry like a little girl.

Most spiders don't bother me, but I HATE wolf spiders. Daddylong legs or tarantulas, I'll pick up. Others, I'll watch. No biggie.

Same with snakes, no biggie.

Heights....screw you. I am absolutely terrified. I will get clammy, my mouth dries up, tunnel vision, etc.

I have no idea why either bc heights never bothered me when I was younger.

Rattlesnakes
Cotton Mouths
Copperheads
Black Widows

At the deerlease and fishcamp from time to time. OK as long as I know where they are.

However, I will do a dance and dodge never known to the white culture until me, if I get buzzed by a yellow jacket or red wasp.

Ben hit by these creatures that have no useful contribution to nature or man:

red wasps
sting rays (unholy worst)
scorpions

And F-scorpions. F-them to hell.

A co-worker of mine tried to defend the ray, as rays make "sand". BFD, how many creatures make sand? By the looks of it, many. F-in Rays have a special place in Hell for them.

About a month ago I put on a shirt and shorts that were lying on a chair and about 20 seconds later I felt the stinging...I couldn't have ripped my clothes off any faster if there were ten hot, naked women in a room waiting for me. At first I was thinking it was a spider until I saw that little f***er crawling on the carpet. I was going commando, too...thank goodness that it just stung me twice at my waistline and didn't head south.
I hadn't seen one in years until that one but I've seen four in as many weeks. Those mf'ers will turn you into a paranoid little ***** when you start seeing them in your home...I can't pick up anything in the house without giving it a thorough inspection.

I have never had a problem with spiders, now this could be because my dad caught used to bring them to me when he would get back from his hunting trips to NM. I had 3 NM trantula's the first two lasted about a year the third one lasted four years. Used to take it out and let it crawl up my arm and it would sit on my shoulder it was a pretty cool pet and awsome to watch it hunt. For some reason i am always the one that is elected to clean out deer stands, I once opened my stand up and found about 100 Black widows that had decided to make that their home. That was a fun little extermination event, better than having to spray wasp nests. Spiders i dont have to jump of the latter when i begin to kill them , wasp's you gotta jump or get stung.

*Sheer coincidence my current GF has a trantula that is quite old

Scorpions, have one in my office sink and two under my chair pad as I type this--Check

Not going to lie, wasps will make me dance. I'll allergic to those things and look like a boxer or broken limb if I get popped by one.

And if I drink alcohol, it better be sweet and no hint of alcohol

1. If you see a live spider about 90% of the time it's a female. The males either die or are killed soon after mating.
2. In Texas I think the brown recluse and black widow are the only spiders that are dangerous and they are pretty small.

I only dispatch spiders in my house because if my wife sees one she will freak out and make me kill it anyway. The same with snakes.

Now if you're Frodo I'd watch out for that big ol' spider...

I just saw a scorpion in Grimes County the other day. Never really seen them in this neck of the woods. Are they common around here? I've seen plenty at the coast.

I hate those bastages. We fight them on a daily basis at my office. Normally I check the floors every morning when I get to work, but on Monday, I forgot to. Fortunately, my office chair wheel crushed the little demon before it had a chance to climb into my computer bag.

I've actually gotten to a point where I don't jump four feet in the air when I see them. Now we collect them and let them battle it out with each other or whatever spiders we find. Tried to bring a live centipede home from the deer camp to see how it would hold up, but it died before I could put it in the tank.

I’m not sure what’s worse: the arachnophobia prevalent on this board or that people post about it without shame.

Speaking of spiders in trucks, I once found a black widow living in a full-blown web under the dashboard of my brand-new truck, right above the pedals. However, I had owned the truck for a about a month, so I’m not sure if the spider was factory or aftermarket.

Its not fear, but complete Biblical scale hate for ants and scorpions. One of the latter got me on the arch of my foot a few weeks ago. Death but not afrais when i seethem, they have it coming to them.

Put a snake in the truck overnight next morning remove snake and the spider problem is over!

The rental home I'm staying at in Boerne has been the house of horrors. My wife had a scorpion fall out of the ceiling light can on her arm when I was out of town on business. I killed two large ones in my daughters closet yesterday and last night during our pre-sleep ritual of flashlighting the ceiling we found a little one hanging out above our bed. My poor wife couldn't sleep at all last night. We're moving into our recently completed home in Boerne Wednesday. Hoping it's a bit better.

For show and tell, this crawled out from under a kitchen cabinet last week:



My teenaged boys caught a small Gecko that was under their bed and fed it to the thing. It ended up being its last meal, since I dispatched its hotly thereafter.

The house also allows wasps in thru several opportune places and the spiders are most impressive.

My poor wife and daughters are at the end of their rope. My wife has been researching how to get rid of Scorpions. So here is her current list for the new house:

- pest control spreading dust and big napalm monthly
- black light raids on scorpions found inside surrounding perimeter nightly until numbers fall (my teen boys are excited about this)
- chickens (seriously mean bantam roosters)
- two outside cats (I mentioned chicken concern, she says we'll get more, or even a goose or three)
- I will caulk every crevice in the entire house. I may need a 7 yard dump truck for all the caulk I'll need

She is currently researching other mammals that eat scorpions. Do ferrets? Seriously....

You could just call an exterminator. They'll know how often they need to come out, they'll close weepholes, and they'll have the chemicals that are the equivalent of "nuke it from space, it's the only way to be sure." They'll also have advice like moving firewood stands away from the house, eliminate water sources, etc etc.
