Finally got around to it. Went through Tactical Safety Institute in Bracken (couple of miles East of Rolling Oaks Mall in San Antonio. www.tac-safe.com) Class only cost $70 including range fees at the Bracken Range just a mile up the road. Both of the owners/instructors have military and LEO experience and both have instructed been instructors for both military and LEO training. They kept everything pretty fast-paced and made the 10 hours go be pretty quickly. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the SA/New Braunfels area.

Everyone easily qualified in the shooting proficiency. I don't think we had anybody score under 220. I seriously don't see how people can't pass that.

And yes, we had a couple of 'those guys' in the class, along with a guy who drove all the way from Laredo for the class because he said all of the classes there cost $325 or more. WTF!?

Now get all of my paperwork turned in and play the waiting game.

Great company. I did mine through them as well and loved it

My wait was just under 2 months. But my photos (taken by L1) were "grainy" so I had to send in new ones.

Wife and I got ours roughly 1 month after the application was submitted at the end of June.

Took mine last weekend. My instructor has told me that I can write "Use DL photo" on the photo holder rather than getting passport photos. My paperwork is all in the envelope, waiting for me to either write that or get 10 min at work and go get those pics. Anyone used the DL photo route?

Yours is the first I have ever heard of that route. If I were you. I'd go to Walgreens and get a passport pic taken...

Maybe it is allowed and I've never heard of it. But, that's not in any literature I have ever seen

Instructor said its a new program they're trying out. I was his 19th or 20th student.

Our instructor said they were averaging 28 days mailbox to mailbox now.

We were also told that we could write in to use our TX DL photo. Said he had spoken to a person at DPS that processes CHL applications and the OK came straight from them. He had all of us that had TX DL's write that in if we didn't want to hassle with new pictures and that he's had all of his classes do it lately with no problems, so I would say it works.

We waited for it to come on sweet jack to get ours. It was $60 and the class was in south Houston. It was good but don't remember the guys name off the top of my head.

Interesting - knew it must be new if it was true.
